Auburn, NY – With 31 hits slapped around the ballpark on Saturday afternoon, the Clarkson University Baseball team completed a doubleheader sweep and series win over Hobart College, downing the Statesmen 12-3 and 7-5 in Liberty League play at Falcon Park.

The Golden Knights moved to 4-8 overall and 3-0 in conference games, while the Statesmen dropped to 2-9 and 0-3. Clarkson is scheduled for a single nine-inning game at Cortland on Wednesday and returns home for a three-game set against RIT next weekend at Jack Phillips Stadium.

In the opener, Clarkson scored runs in each of the first five innings to build a significant lead early on.  The Knights pushed four across in the top of the first, as Caleb Doyle opened things with a double to left-center. After two outs were made, Jake Millich reached on an infield single to put runners on the corners, and Doyle later scored on a passed ball. Two walks loaded the bases, and Aidan Kuefner singled in a run to put the score at 2-0, while Robert Whalen followed with a single to right to plate two more, putting the tally at 4-0 before Hobart sent its first hitter up to the dish.

Clarkson tacked on a run in the second when Colby Brouillette singled in Doyle, and the Knights added three more in the third when Whalen hit the first pitch he saw for a three-run homer, scoring Cam Jerrett and Kuefner. In the fourth, James Mason doubled in Millich, and Kuefner drove in another run with a single. Hobart got on the board with a solo homer by Ty Gallagher in the bottom of the fourth, but the Knights scored two more in the fifth as Millich doubled in Brouillette, and Mason doubled home Millich.

Clarkson finished the first game with 15 hits as six players enjoyed multi-hit games. Millich was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and Whalen was 3-for-4 with five RBI. Nicholas Hofacker picked up the win, allowing five hits and a walk while striking out six.

Game two was a closer affair, but Clarkson still had its offense rolling with 16 hits in nine innings. The Knights scored one in the first as Mason singled home Kent Wilson, but Hobart scored twice in the bottom half of the inning on a single from Jeremy Sanchez and a sac bunt by Christian Petry. Clarkson came back with two in the next inning, as Joe Figliolino got the rally going with a one-out double. After Caleb Doyle walked, Kent Wilson doubled in both runners to put the Knights up 3-2. A single by Michael Whiteherse in the bottom of the inning tied the game at 3-3.

The game remained knotted up at 3-3 until the fifth, but the Knights took the lead when Jake Millich led off with a triple and came home on James Mason's sac fly. In the seventh, the Knights picked up two more runs with a bases loaded, two-out single from Caleb Doyle. In the bottom half of the inning, Whiteherse drove in a run with a groundout.

Clarkson picked up an insurance run in the eighth when Cam Jerrett's infield single sent Brouillette home, and the run proved key as Hobart rallied in the ninth. The Statesmen loaded the bases with no one out, but sophomore pitcher Carter Gould came in and induced three fly outs, limiting the damage to just one run on a sac fly to escape the jam and earn the save.

Jerrett and Figliolino each went 3-for-5 in the game, while Doyle, Brouillette, and Kuefner each collected two hits. Cole Riskin picked up the win, allowing six hits over five innings and striking out three. Mateo Sarabia came on to pitch three innings of relief, and Gould collected three outs to close out the contest.
