Baseball Keeps Win Streak Alive With 11-4 Win Over John Jay

NEWARK, NJ | Ricky Gonzalez went a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish this afternoon as the Scarlet Raiders kept it rolling with an 11-4 win over John Jay to extend their win streak to seven in a row. Rutgers-Newark improved to 14-4 with the win while the Bloodhounds fell to 2-19. 

The Scarlet Raiders recorded a run in every inning and used eight hits to do so with just one error. NJAC Rookie of the Week Gilroy Prial was walked in his three plate appearances while freshman catcher, Aidan Sheehan finished 1-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs. Robert Gonzalez pitched six clean innings, throwing 78 pitches and tallied five strikeouts. 

Prial once again got on base in his first plate appearance and stole 2nd and 3rd before crossing the dish via a wild pitch. Sheehan then brought in a run in the 2nd with a fielder's choice followed but another run before Michael Weinbel walked in a run. With the 4-0 lead the Scarlet Raiders scored three more runs before the Bloodhounds found their first runs.

In the top of the 6th, the Bloodhounds used four hits and one error to plate three runs on the Scarlet Raiders. Rutgers-Newark responded with two in the bottom of the 7th before plating one more in the 8th to push their lead out to 11 to carry their win streak into Thursday.

The Scarlet Raiders will travel to Cairn on Thursday for their final non-conference bout before NJAC play begins on Saturday.
