WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The St. Olaf College baseball team closed out its Florida trip by picking up its first win over a nationally-ranked opponent in over five years with a 10-3 victory over No. 25-ranked Augustana College (Ill.) on Wednesday morning at Chain O'Lakes Complex.

St. Olaf (4-7) scored in each of the first three innings to get out to an early 7-0 lead and held on the rest of the way to salvage the final game of its three-game set against Augustana (15-4). The Vikings were ranked No. 25 in the D3baseball.com/NCBWA Top 25 released earlier this week. The win was St. Olaf's first over a nationally-ranked team since the Oles defeated third-ranked UW-Whitewater by a 6-3 score on March 26, 2018.

After taking over in the fourth, junior Brock Brumley threw 5.0 innings of shutout relief to earn the first victory of his St. Olaf career, limiting Augustana to three hits with no walks and two strikeouts. The Oles recorded double-digit hits for the third time in the last four games by registering 12 hits in the win.

Sophomore Evan Hammonds, junior Sam Lavin, first year Frank Lavin, and junior Brian Nevin all had multiple hits in the game for St. Olaf. Hammonds was 2-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and two stolen bases, Sam Lavin went 2-for-5 with two runs and three RBI, Frank Lavin was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI, and Nevin went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

After scoring a run in the first on an RBI single by junior Joey Glampe, St. Olaf added three runs in the second and three more in the third to stretch its lead to 7-0. Sam Lavin drove in two runs with a single in the second and Frank Lavin followed with a run-scoring triple. Hammonds had the big hit of the third with a two-out RBI single to right center.

Augustana got its lone three runs of the game in the fourth, but Brumley prevented further damage by leaving the bases full of Vikings in the inning. The score remained at 7-3 until the eighth, when the Oles tacked on three more runs, scoring on an RBI single by Sam Lavin, a wild pitch, and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Frank Lavin.

St. Olaf is scheduled to open Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play with a home doubleheader against Augsburg University on Saturday, April 1 at 1/3:30 p.m.
