Dutchmen Hit Four Home Runs To Sweep Albright

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley baseball team hit two home runs in each game and received strong pitching to finish off the season sweep of Albright with a pair of wins at McGill Field on Saturday afternoon. The Dutchmen won the opener 12-0 before a fifth inning homer by Jace Fetterman gave the team a 4-3 victory in game two. 

Game 1

The Dutchmen (12-10-1, 8-1 MAC Commonwealth) scored the only run they would need in the first inning as Shane Stossel knocked in Nico Santoro on a grounder to second with runners at the corners and one out. LVC added a run in the third, a run in the fourth, and then nine in the fifth for Stossel who pitched brilliantly with 10 strikeouts and just three hits allowed in seven innings.

Conor Smith doubled to center field in the third to score Stossel from first with two outs. In the fourth inning, Ryan Murphy singled to right, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and then scored on a Santoro single through the left side. The Dutchmen batted around in the fifth sending 12 batters to the plate. Smith started the scoring with a one-out home run to right field. Dave Mangold and Andrew Miles singled before Murphy was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Logan Fuga drew a walk to score a run and then Santoro cleared the bases with a double to center. Fetterman was hit by a pitch and Logan Brewer reached on an error to reload the bases for Stossel. The junior blasted his third home run of the weekend and second grand slam of the week with a shot to left center.

Inside the Box Score

  • The Dutchmen scored over 10 runs for the third consecutive game and the eighth time this season.
  • Santoro led the team with three hits and scored two runs while knocking in four.
  • Stossel knocked in five on two hits and scored twice. He earned his fifth win of the year on the mound with a complete game gem. The junior has now struck out 22 Albright batters in his last two starts against the Lions.
  • Smith had two hits including his third home run of the year. He knocked in two runs and scored once.
  • Mangold also had two hits while Murphy scored two runs.

Game 2

LVC (13-10-1, 8-1 MAC Commonwealth) hit two home runs to win the second game after the Lions took an early lead. Albright scored a run in the second and a run in the fourth to take a 2-0 advantage. Mangold changed that with one swing of the bat as he blasted a three-run homer to left field scoring Stossel and Brewer. The Lions tied things up in the fifth with a run. Fetterman hit his second game-winning home run of the season at McGill Field with a shot to right in the bottom of the inning giving the Dutchmen a 4-3 lead with Jacob Detwiler on the mound. Detwiler shut down the Lions in the sixth and then Brendan Landry earned the save with a scoreless seventh.

  • Brewer had two of LVC's seven hits in the game.
  • Fetterman blasted his fourth home run of the year.
  • Mangold had three RBI on his second home run of the season.
  • Andrew Spaan pitched the first four innings and struck out six.
  • Detwiler struck out two in two innings while Landry walked one and faced four batters in the seventh.

The Dutchmen will head to Messiah University on Tuesday to finish off the season series with the Falcons. Game one of the doubleheader will begin at 12 with game two to follow.
