Keuka College Baseball Swept on Monday

PITTSFORD, N.Y. — The Keuka College Baseball team was swept in an Empire 8 doubleheader on Monday afternoon at St. John Fisher University.

Keuka College (3-10) lost a 1-0 pitcher's duel in the opener before dropping game two 15-1 to the Cardinals.

St. John Fisher University 1 vs. Keuka College 0 – Game One

The Cardinals were first to threaten as they loaded the bases with one out in the second. Keuka College's starting pitcher Anthony Laurinitis (Philadelphia, Pa. / Father Judge) got the next two batters to pop out and ground out to end the inning.

Keuka College got their first hit in the top of the fifth as Josh Tryon (Elmira, N.Y. / Thomas A. Edison) singled to leadoff the inning. The Wolves put two on with one out but were unable to push a run across.

St. John Fisher got a leadoff double in the bottom of the frame. A pair of ground outs followed to move the runner over and get him in for the 1-0 lead. Laurinitis held the Cardinals there, but the Wolves were not able to push a run across as the single run for St. John Fisher held up for the victory.

Lead Wolf: Laurinitis shined on the mound for the Wolves. The sophomore went all six for Keuka College with eight strikeouts. He only allowed four hits and the one run in the loss.

St. John Fisher University 15 vs. Keuka College 1 – Game 2

St. John Fisher took the lead in the bottom of the first inning with three runs. Keuka College answered in the top of the first. Shane Daley (Elma, N.Y. / Iroquois) led off with a walk and moved to third on a single by Ethan Drinon (Middleburgh, N.Y. / Schoharie). Daley scored on a single by Nolan Quinn (Aurora, Ohio / Walsh Jesuit), but the Wolves stranded Drinon and Quinn on the bases as the game remained at 3-1.

The Cardinals struck right back with five runs in the bottom of the inning. They would add three in the fourth and four in the fifth on their way to the 15-1 victory.

Lead Wolf: Tyler Lewandowski (Milltown, N.J. / Spotswood) had a pair of singles for the Wolves, accounting for two of their six hits in game two.

  • The Wolves fall to 1-41 all-time against St. John Fisher
  • Game one was the second time in series history that the Cardinals defeated the Wolves 1-0. Keuka College also holds a 1-0 win over St. John Fisher in the series
  • Laurinitis has already surpassed his 2022 strikeout total
  • Ethan Drinon had his personal-best four-game hitting streak snapped in game one but bounced back with a hit in game two.

Up Next for Keuka College: There has been a shift to Keuka College's upcoming schedule. Their scheduled doubleheader against Hilbert College on Tuesday has been postponed. It will be made up as a single, nine-inning game on Thursday, April 6 at Hilbert College.
