Mustang Baseball Out-Stride Blazers 19-9

Owings Mills, Md.- The Stevenson University baseball team defeated MAC opponent Hood College 19-9 on Tuesday afternoon. 

Junior Jake Pigeon earned his first win this season after allowing only five hits in five innings while striking out four. The Mustang's record improves to 11-9 and 5-5 in the MACC. 

Stevenson got off to a strong start, scoring two runs in the first inning to take an early lead. The Blazers pitcher allowed junior Nick Tamberino to reach first off, an error, which brought graduate students Trent Smoot and Billy McAdam home.? 

In the second, the Mustangs kept their foot on the gas pedal. McAdam doubled to right field and scored senior Dylan Scott. Then, junior Amani Jones singled to right center which moved Trent Smoot to third and brought McAdam home. Graduate student Jonathan Brandt grounded and laid down a sacrifice bunt sending Jones to third and Trent Smoot to home plate. Graduate student Tommy Holcomb singled to right center, driving home Jones and increasing their lead to 6-0.? 

The Blazers tried to start a comeback starting in the third inning, scoring one run, but the Mustangs showed no signs of mercy with an eight-run inning. Jones homered to left field, bringing in brothers Trent Smoot and Trevor Smoot through the home plate. Shortly after, Brandt doubled to right field, and Tamberino scored another run for the Mustangs. Senior Elliott Schilpp then singled to right center, driving Brandt home. To finish off the eventful inning, Scott tripled to left center with the bases loaded, scoring Trevor Smoot, Holcomb, and Schilpp. 

Hood put up two runs in the fifth, but that didn't faze the Mustangs when Trevor Smoot doubled and brought Holcomb in for Stevenson's fifteenth run of the game.? 

In the sixth inning, the Mustangs brought in an additional three runs. First, Holcomb walked with bases loaded which led first year Collin Palmieri home. Then, first year Hunter Chase grounded out to third which drove sophomore Brandon Perillo home.?With the bases loaded again, Trent Smoot had a good eye and walked, allowing first year Vince Licor to score.  

The Mustangs scored another run in the seventh after a senior Alex Russo singled up the middle driving Perillo home for the nineteenth run of the game.  

In the eighth, the Blazers got a second wind, scoring four runs, making the score. Then, in the final inning, Hood had another two runs, which made the final score of the game 19-9. 

Coming up next for the Mustangs, they will take on MACC opponent Lebanon Valley College on Friday at 3:30 p.m. in Lebanon, Pa. Then, on Saturday, they will battle them again at Owings Mills East Campus for a doubleheader beginning at 12 and 3 p.m.
