ITHACA, N.Y. - The Ithaca College baseball team put its bats on display and received a gem on the mound from Jack Colyer as IC defeated Alfred State, 17-4, on Wednesday afternoon at Freeman Field. Ithaca is now 14-8 on the season and has won four-straight games.

Ithaca's offense started out hot in the bottom of the first, coming out the gates with a leadoff walk by Mike Nauta followed by back-to-back scorching singles through the right side off the bats of Louis Fabbo and Garrett Callaghan, eventually leading to Nauta scoring the first run of the ballgame. The Pioneers escaped the inning with a smooth double play to end the first inning down by one.

IC started the bottom of the third inning in similar fashion to their first inning as Callaghan's second RBI single of the game plated Nauta. Matt Curtis followed with a deep sacrifice fly to centerfield pushing the Bombers lead to 3-0.

The Bombers bats kept their foot on the gas in the bottom of the fourth inning, starting out the inning with a towering double off the wall from Ryan Laubscher then leading to an RBI single smacked off the bat of Connor Pedersen. After a perfectly executed hit-and-run from Nauta, Fabbo launched a double into the left-center field gap with both Pedersen and Nauta crossing the plate to raise Ithaca's advantage to 6-0 heading into the fifth inning.

The scoring onslaught continued in the fifth inning as IC showed their muscle with a leadoff homer belted off the scoreboard from Curtis then followed by a two-run bomb to dead-centerfield off the powerful bat of Laubscher. IC ended the fifth inning of play with a commanding 9-0 lead.

As the sixth inning rolled around, the clouds began to spread as rain poured down on Freeman Field. Even the poor weather could not stop the Bombers offense as they went on to plate six runs in the sixth inning. Starting off the rally was Callaghan with his third single of the game, leading to Fabbo scoring on a throwing error following his double to lead off the inning, the second of the day for Fabbo. With the bases loaded, Callaghan crossed the plate to score on a wild pitch followed up with back-to-back RBI singles off the bats of Gil Merod and Ethan Rothstein. The rally continued with a fielder's choice, scoring Rothstein then leading to an RBI single from Colin Shashaty. The Pioneers finally stopped the bleeding, with IC up 15-0 heading into the seventh inning.

The Alfred State offense was stifled from the brilliant performance on the mound from Colyer. On the bump, Colyer allowed only three hits through six innings, making quick work while striking out 10 with eight of them caught looking in the process. Zane Grimes entered in the seventh inning, continuing the strikeout display with two of his own to get through a scoreless inning of work heading into the eighth inning of play.

In the top of the eighth inning, the Pioneers notched their first runs of the game, scoring two in the inning off a fielder's choice and single, respectively. Going into the bottom half of the inning, the Bombers remained in front with a 15-2 advantage.

Ithaca propelled the lead to 17-2 with a two-run blast off the bat of Collin Feeney, pushing the Bombers homer total to three on the day.

Alfred State pushed across two more runs in the 9th, but to little avail as Ithaca dominated from the start to go on to win with a 17-4 final score.

IC produced a whopping 20 hits on the day, including eight for extra bases. Laubscher went 3-for-5 on the day with two RBIs, while Fabbo was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles. Callaghan also had three hits of his own with a pair of RBI.

Ithaca is scheduled to host RIT on Friday then followed by a doubleheader at Rochester on Saturday.
