Dutchmen Baseball Wins Fifth Conference Series with Split at Stevenson

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Lebanon Valley baseball team defeated host Stevenson University 8-4 in game one of a Saturday doubleheader to win their fifth conference series of the year. The Mustangs used a brilliant pitching performance to win game two 3-1. 

Game 1

Lebanon Valley (17-10-1, 13-1 MAC Commonwealth) scored in the first inning as Logan Brewer hit a sacrifice fly to center with Nico Santoro on third. Andrew Miles made it 2-0 with an infield single to first to score Shane Stossel. The Mustangs (11-11, 5-7 MAC Commonwealth) got a run back in the second on two singles and a walk. Jace Fetterman knocked in his first run of the game in the third to give LVC a two-run cushion. Luke Blair doubled home two runs in the fifth to make it 5-1. Stevenson responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead back to one run. Fetterman gave the Dutchmen some breathing room in the sixth with a two-run single to right. Santoro knocked in an insurance run in the seventh for the final run of the game.

Game 2

The Mustangs (12-11, 6-7 MAC Commonwealth) received a strong pitching performance by Matt Reich to win the second game. Stevenson scored first with a run in the first. LVC tied the game up in the third as Santoro knocked in Blair with a single down the line in left. Stevenson took the lead back with a run in the bottom of the inning and then scored an insurance run in the fourth.

  • Santoro had the team's lone hit in the game and knocked in a run.
  • Blair drew a walk and scored a run.
  • Stossel and Smith had a walk each.
  • Jacob Horton struck out three and allowed three runs on seven hits in four innings of work.
  • Ryan Pickle struck out two and allowed just one hit in two innings of relief.

The Dutchmen will open their three-game series against Widener University next Friday at 3:30 p.m. on McGill Field.
