Plattsburgh, NY – Eleven runs over nine innings wasn't enough for the Clarkson University Baseball team last week against Plattsburgh State, so in the rematch the Golden Knights put up double that plus one just to be sure, as the Green and Gold routed the Cardinals 23-6 on Tuesday afternoon.

The Golden Knights improved to 6-14 on the year while the Cardinals fell to 6-14. Clarkson has a pair of conference doubleheaders this weekend when the team travels to take on Bard College on Saturday and Rensselaer on Sunday.

Clarkson scored in all but one inning on Tuesday, and had a crooked number in all but two as the team was consistent in its offense, pounding out a season-high 24 hits. In the first, Joe Pagano things started things out with a one-out single and Colby Brouillette hit a home run to center to put the Knights up 2-0. An inning later, Clarkson pushed across three runs with two outs as Caleb Doyle delivered a two-run double and Joe Pagano singled up the middle to plate another. Plattsburgh challenged the Knights in the bottom half of the inning, but a diving play from Aidan Kuefner in right turned into a double play, as Kent Wilson was able to apply the tag before the Cardinals could tag up from third to score a run.

The offense continued in the third, as Clarkson scored three more with Kuefner plating one with a single and Cam Jerrett driving in two with a double. Plattsburgh put up five in the bottom of the third, thanks to three-run scoring hits and two sacrifice flies, but that outburst was counteracted with four more runs by the Knights in the top of the fourth. Joe Figliolino singled in two to make it 10-5, and Jerrett singled to right to drive in two more to put the score at 12-5.

In the fifth, a Joe Pagano sac fly drove in Clarkson's 13th run, an error allowed Colby Brouillette to score, and Kent Wilson singled to drive in Jake Millich. Jerrett doubled to center to drive in two more, his fifth and sixth RBI of the day, to put the tally at 17-5.

Plattsburgh knocked in a run in the bottom half of the fifth, only to see Clarkson tack on three more runs. Brouillette hit his second two-run homer of the day, a long shot to deep right center, and Figliolino singled home Kent Wilson to make the score 20-6. Clarkson added an unearned run in the seventh and two more in the ninth.

Jerrett finished 4-for-6 with two doubles and six RBI, Brouillette was 4-for-6 with four runs scored and five RBI, and Pagano ended up 4-for-5 with four runs scored and two RBI. Wilson also scored four times, Figliolino had three RBI, and James Mason was 3-for-6 with three runs scored.

Derrick Lewis got the win, pitching the middle three innings in relief of starter Cole Riskin, allowing one earned run with two strikeouts. Ben HandJoseph Godomsky, and Sam Gallagher each threw a scoreless inning to close out the contest.
