Cortland Blasts Oneonta, 23-4, to Reach 20-Win Mark

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland baseball team scored 21 runs over the first four innings and the Red Dragons routed visiting Oneonta, 23-4, in a SUNYAC contest that was called after seven innings due to the league's 10-run rule. 
 
Cortland (20-7, 10-0 SUNYAC) won its 15th straight game and reached the 20-win mark for the 33rd straight full season. Oneonta entered the game in second place in the SUNYAC standings and is now 19-7 overall and 5-2 in the league. The teams will play a doubleheader in Cortland Saturday at noon. 
 
Adam Mieczkowski (Vestal) hit two of Cortland's four homers on the afternoon. He finished 2-for-3 with five RBI and three runs scored. Nick Chemotti (Warners/West Genesee) homered and ended 3-for-3 with three RBI and three runs and Mitchell Kelly (Webster/Webster Thomas) homered and drove in three runs. 
 
Mieczkowski and Chemotti were two of seven Cortland players to register multiple hits as part of a 19-hit attack. Andrew Michalski (Buffalo/St. Francis) was 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs, Hunter Holliday (Camden) was 2-for-2 with a walk, RBI and two runs, and Dylan Tierney (East Greenbush/Columbia) went 2-for-2 off the bench with an RBI. Zachary Kringdon (Larchmont/Mamaroneck) finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Chris Bonacci (Syracuse/West Genesee) ended 2-for-5 with two RBI. Mat Bruno (Rye) finished 1-for-4 with a walk, two RBI and two runs. 
 
Dylan Beers (Woodbury/Monroe-Woodbury) improved to 5-1 after allowing three runs on five hits over five innings. he struck out five and didn't walk anyone. Mikey Wandell (Newark Valley) tossed a scoreless sixth with three hits allowed and three strikeouts and Anthony Fusco (Yorktown Heights/Yorktown) allowed a run on one hit in the seventh. 
 
Oneonta starter Sean Liquori, who entered with a 1.34 ERA, took the loss after allowing six runs on four hits and two walks in one-plus innings. Franklin Padilla was 1-for-2 with a homer and two RBI and Matt Sandoval went 1-for-2 with an RBI. 
 
Chemotti hit a solo homer and Mieczkowski hit a two-run blast in the first to give Cortland a 3-0 lead. The hosts sent 13 batters to the plate in an eight-run second inning that included a Bonacci two-run single and RBI singles from Chemotti and Dylan Mackenzie (Canandaigua Academy). Cortland then exploded for 10 runs in the fourth as 16 batters made their way to the plate. The first three runs scored on RBI singles by Michalski, Chemotti and Bruno, and two batters later Mieczkowski hit a three-run homer to left center. Later in the inning Kelly hit a three-run shot, and Bruno closed the inning's scoring four batters later with a bases-loaded walk. 
 
Cortland's other runs came via a Tierney RBI single in the fifth and a passed ball in the sixth. Oneonta scored in the fourth on a Sandoval RBI double, twice in the fifth on Padilla's two-run homer, and once in the sixth on a Bradley Turner RBI groundout.
