No. 3 BW Baseball Defeats Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) in Season Opener

BEREA, Ohio – In the earliest game played in school history, the No. 3 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University baseball team defeated Washington and Jefferson (Pa.) College by a final score of 5-4 on Fisher Field

BW (1-0) scored five runs on eight hits as it plated two runs in the first and second and one in the fourth.  Washington and Jefferson (0-1) scored four runs on nine hits as it pushed one run across the plate in the second and third and two in the seventh.

At the Plate

  • Junior outfielder Joey Marousek (North Royalton) went 2-for-2 with two runs scored, a run batted-in (RBI) and walk
  • Six Yellow Jacket batters recorded a base knock.
  • Senior third baseman Nick Clark (Willowick/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin had two RBIs
  • Freshman designated hitter Mally Kilbane (Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls) tallied his first career RBI

On the Mound

  • Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference right hander Garrett Miller (McMurray, Pa.) picked up the win as he allowed two runs on five hits with five strikeouts and two walks in three innings pitched
  • Senior All-OAC righty Gordon Seger (Rome/Grand Valley) did not allow a run on one hit with two strikeouts and one walk in two innings pitched.
  • Junior right hander Vince Dolcemaschio (Los Angeles, Calif./Winward School) allowed two runs on two hits with two strikeouts in two innings pitched
  • Junior righty Dylan Snyder (Stow/Akron Archbishop Hoban) did not allow a run or hit with two strikeouts and a walk in an inning pitched
  • Sophomore right hander Tyler Walker (Fairlawn/Copley) earned his first career save as he did not allow a run on one hit with one strike out in the ninth inning.

BW is back in on Saturday, February 24 when it travels to Baltimore, Maryland for a pair of non-conference games against Arcadia (Pa.) University and No. 1 nationally ranked and host Johns Hopkins University at the Baltimore Invitational on Babb Field inside Stromberg Stadium ay 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., respectively.
