Benedictine Swings to Two Wins to Start 2024

Opening a season with high expectations, the Benedictine University baseball team recorded a pair of wins in Indiana, taking down Ripon 7-2 and Wabash 17-7 in eight innings.

Full stats from game one will be available soon, but Kevin Bushnell homered twice and Brennen Fisher also went deep. Nick Kosmetatos worked five shutout innings to grab the win. The team opened the season by scoring a run right away in the first inning.

Fisher hit a two-run homer in the top of the first in the second game and Benedictine did not trail. Chase Hanselman homered in the second and DeShawnte Carraway also homered in the fifth, a three-run blast.

Nine players posted a hit and Benedictine totaled 14, scoring at least a run in every inning and multiple runs in four frames. The team also drew 10 walks. Hanselman scored four runs. Carraway finished with three hits and three RBIs. Fisher and Hanselman also contributed three hits each.

Andrew Kurcz started and worked four innings. Dan Dombrowski gathered the win in relief with 1.1 scoreless frames. Austin Pizer closed out the game with two scoreless.

Benedictine (2-0) will head to Florida for the annual spring trip, opening play against Buena Vista next Sunday.
