Kalamazoo Scores 28, Completes Series Sweep at Earlham

RICHMOND, Ind. - The Kalamazoo College baseball team completed the three-game sweep of Earlham College with a 28-4 win on Sunday. Kalamazoo's 28 runs are the second-most in school history and the highest in Coach Ott's tenure.

Kalamazoo improved to 6-0 with the win, while Earlham dropped to 2-4. The Hornets had 26 hits in seven innings, also the second-highest total in school history. Earlham had eight hits in the contest.

The Hornets scored three runs in the first and led 3-1 after two innings. After putting another three on the board in the top of the third and leading 6-2 at the end of three, Kalamazoo scored four in the fourth, 12 in the fifth, three in the sixth and three in the seventh. Earlham added a single run in the sixth and seventh innings.

Logan Lockhart finished 4-for-4 with a double and a home run, while tying the school record with eight RBIs.

Cooper Mills was 4-for-4 with a double and three walks while tying the school record with seven runs scored from the leadoff spot.

David Stechow was 4-for-6 with two doubles, six RBIs and four runs scored.

Robert Newland finished 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and four runs scored.

Harrison PoeszatRiley WeberAlex DiDio and Cam Kelly each had two hits. 

Alex Fenkell had a double. Poeszat and Fenkell also drove in two runs apiece.

Braden Mussat earned the win on the mound with five strikeouts in four innings. Blake ParpartDean TurpinOwen SchihlReece Omodio and Aidan Liedeke pitched the final three innings. Schihl struck out both batters he faced in the sixth.

Kalamazoo travels to Jacksonville, Ill. next weekend for neutral site games against Grinnell, Elmhurst and Wartburg.
