Ithaca Notches Another Walk-Off Win; This Time In Extras vs. Swarthmore, 9-8

LEXINGTON, S.C. – The Ithaca College baseball team continued its hot stretch in South Carolina on Wednesday afternoon as the Bombers defeated Swarthmore, 9-8, in 10 innings on another walk-off. The Bombers are now 7-2 with two games remaining on their spring trip.

It was a slow start offensively for both teams as Swarthmore held a 1-0 lead heading to the bottom of the fifth inning. The Bombers would then take a 2-1 lead in the bottom half as Connor Pedersen led off with a single, followed by a double from Colin Shashaty. Louis Fabbo then drove home both on another double.

The Bombers extended their lead to 4-1 in the sixth inning with another two-run frame as a double be Tyler Pugliese put two runners in scoring position with two outs. An error brought home Ethan Rothstein and a wild pitch plated Pugliese.

Swarthmore knotted the game at 4-4 in the seventh on a pair of base hits and a sacrifice fly and then took the lead, 5-4, in the eighth on a bases loaded fielder's choice.

IC sent the game into extra innings on an RBI double by Matt Curtis with Fabbo on base.

The Garnet seemed to put the game away with a three-run 10th inning with a bunt single, double and groundout to make the score 8-5, but Ithaca responded with four runs in the bottom half to secure the walk-off win.

Ryan Laubscher led off with a single and moved up to third on a pair of wild pitches. Rothstein and Pugliese drew walks to load the bases and the first run crossed on a hit by pitch to Ethan McDonough. Shashaty then drove in a run on a fielder's choice and Fabbo tied the game at 8-8 with an infield single. Colin Dunn delivered the game-winning single to left to bring in Shashaty.

Trevor Greene started on the mound for the Bombers and went 2.0 innings. Danny Drotos threw the next 4.0 innings in relief and struck out three batters, while John Griffin and Sean Kelly each tossed an inning. Conor Burns picked up the win in the final inning of relief with a strikeout.

Fabbo went 4-for-5 with three RBI, while Rothstein was 3-for-3 with two runs scored.

IC and Swarthmore play again on Thursday at 10 a.m.
