Offense Continues to Roll for RMC Baseball vs. H-SC

ASHLAND, Va. – The Randolph-Macon baseball team surpassed 20 hits and 20 runs for the second straight day in a 22-5 ODAC victory over Hampden-Sydney on Wednesday afternoon.

How It Happened:

  • The Yellow Jackets got on the board in the bottom of the first. Freshman Jon Quici (Philadelphia, Pa./Conestoga) had a leadoff triple to right center and scored when junior Aaron Lautenschlager (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) reached on an error to give RMC a 1-0 edge.
  • The Tigers put up one in the third, two in the fourth and two in the fifth before RMC responded in the bottom of the fifth. Sophomore Eli Brooks (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) led off the inning with his first collegiate home run to make it 5-2. Quici tripled to right and, following a walk to sophomore Carter Schmitt (Glen Allen, Va./St. Christopher's), scored on a single by Lautenschlager as the Yellow Jackets pulled within two at 5-3. Junior Chaz Harvey (Charlottesville, Va./The Miller School) singled to load the bases before a two-run base hit by senior Myles Webb (Norfolk, Va./Granby) tied the game at 5-5. Sophomore Nathan Chen (South Riding, Va./Freedom) had an RBI single, senior Grayson Bush (Charlottesville, Va./Monticello) had a safety squeeze and Schmitt capped the nine-run outburst with a two-run double as the home team took a 10-5 advantage.
  • RMC would put up a dozen in the sixth. Harvey led off with his third homer of the season, freshman Zach Wernoski (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) had a two-run triple, and Bush put the exclamation point on the rally with a two-run dinger, his first of the year, as the Yellow Jackets went up 22-5.

  • RMC has outscored its opponents 64-15 in its past three games.
  • The Yellow Jackets have had double-figure hits in five straight games and seven of the past eight contests.
  • Schmitt finished with two hits, two runs and four RBI.
  • Bush and Wernoski both knocked in three.
