Bush, Slevin Key #20 RMC Baseball Win over LYN

ASHLAND, Va. – Senior Grayson Bush (Charlottesville, Va./Monticello) had four hits and junior Sam Slevin (Virginia Beach, Va./Frank Cox) recorded his seventh save as the 20th-ranked Randolph-Macon baseball team held on for a 6-3 ODAC win over Lynchburg on Wednesday afternoon.

The Basics:

Score: Randolph-Macon 6, Lynchburg 3

Venue: Hugh Stephens Field at Estes Park

Records: RMC 21-9, 13-4 ODAC; LYN 21-12, 10-7 ODAC

How It Happened:

  • The Yellow Jackets started the scoring in the bottom of the first. Freshman Jon Quici (Paoli, Pa./Conestoga) drew a leadoff walk, went to second on a one-out single by senior Myles Webb (Norfolk, Va./Granby) and came home on a base hit by junior Chaz Harvey (Charlottesville, Va./Miller School) to give the home team a 1-0 lead.
  • RMC added to its lead in the second. Senior Matt Myers (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) had a leadoff homer to left to push the advantage to 2-0. It was his first long ball of the season. Bush followed with a double. Sophomore Jordan Hill (Norfolk, Va./Granby) singled to move Bush to third and took second on the throw. Sophomore Carter Schmitt (Glen Allen, Va./St. Christopher's) singled to knock in Bush and Hill, making it a 4-0 contest.
  • The Yellow Jackets put up another crooked number in the fourth. Schmitt singled to left and went to third on a double by Webb. With two away, freshman Zach Wernoski (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) singled to drive in both runners to make it 6-0.
  • The Hornets tallied two in the sixth and one in the eighth but fell 6-3.
