Wolves Complete Sweep of Alfred

HOUGHTON, N.Y. — The Keuka College Baseball team completed the season sweep of Alfred University by taking both ends of a doubleheader against the Saxons on Sunday.

Keuka College (6-21, 5-7 Empire 8) took the opener 17-3 against the Saxons. Tanner Olson (Gowanda, N.Y.  / Gowanda) then pitched a complete-game shutout in game two as the Wolves earned the 7-0 victory.

The Wolves took the quick lead as RJ Murphy (Syracuse, N.Y. / West Genesee) singled up the middle to score Alex Evans (Liverpool, N.Y. / Liverpool). The Wolves then loaded the bases and took advantage of a Saxons error to plate a pair and lead 3-0.

Alfred scored two in the bottom of the inning, but Keuka answered right back in the second. Samuel O'Neil (Macedon, N.Y. / Ruben A. Cirillo) tripled to lead off the inning and scored on an Evans single. Evans came home on a triple by Carlos Fantauzzi (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua Academy) to make it 5-2. The Wolves added runs on a bases-loaded walk and sacrifice fly to lead 7-2.

Keuka continued to add to their lead in the third with the big hit coming as an RBI single by Fantauzzi. The Wolves added a run on an error and passed ball to extend their advantage to 10-3.

After the second inning, the pitching combination of Anthony Laurinitis (Philadelphia, Pa. / Father Judge) and Keegan Ferris (Elbridge, N.Y. / Jordan Elbridge) held the Saxons to just one hit and without a run.

Keuka added insurance runs in the sixth and seventh innings on their way to the 17-3 victory.

Pitching dominated early in game two. Alex Evans singled in the third and moved to third on passed balls, but he would be left stranded.

It would be Evans again who sparked the offense, getting the Wolves on the board in the fifth. He singled home Shane Daley (Elma, N.Y. / Iroquois) to give the Wolves the lead. Evans then stole second and scored on a single by Tyler Lewandowski (Milltown, N.J. / Spotswood) to make it 2-0.

That would be all that Tanner Olsen needed. The senior went all nine innings for the complete-game shutout. He became just the 11th pitcher in program history to go nine or more innings and his three hits allowed in a game tied fifth-fewest in program history.

The Wolves added a run in the sixth and then put the game away with four in the eighth to secure the 7-0 victory.

Up Next for Keuka College: The Green and Gold step out of the Empire 8 Conference and play a doubleheader at Clarks Summit University on Tuesday afternoon.
