Keuka Slugs Past Clarks Summit for Doubleheader Sweep

DUNMORE, Pa. — The Keuka College Baseball team combined for 34 runs on 29 hits on Tuesday in a doubleheader sweep at Clarks Summit University.

Keuka College (8-21, 5-7 Empire 8) defeated the Defenders 23-4 in game one, tying for the fourth-most runs in a game in program history. The Wolves then completed the sweep with an 11-5 victory in game two.

Keuka College 23 at Clarks Summit University 4 – Game One

The Wolves struck right away with three runs in the first inning. Alex Evans (Liverpool, N.Y. / Liverpool) led off with a single and then scored as Tyler Lewandowski (Milltown, N.J. / Spotswood) delivered his first career home run for the early 2-0 lead. Carlos Fantauzzi (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua Academy) added a solo home run in the inning for the Wolves.

Clarks Summit scored two in the bottom of the inning, but the Wolves got those back immediately on a two-run home run by Kyle Wood (Newark, N.Y. / Newark).

The Wolves put the game away in the third as they scored eight runs on seven hits. The big hits in the frame included a bases-clearing triple by Tyler Lewandowski. Kyle Wood followed with a triple of his own. Later, RJ Murphy (Syracuse, N.Y. / West Genesee) doubled and scored on a Matt Vaccaro (Fayetteville, N.Y. / Fayetteville-Manlius) home run to make it 13-2.

Keuka pushed their lead to 18-4 and extended it as Kyle Wood hit his second two-run home run of the game in the fifth, becoming the first player since 2015 to hit two home runs in a game. As a team, the Wolves set a program record with five home runs in a game.

Tyler Lewandowski finished the game becoming the second player in program history to hit for the cycle. To go with his four hits, he drove in six runs and scored five as the Wolves defeated the Defenders 23-4.

Keuka College 11 at Clarks Summit University 5 – Game Two

The Wolves looked to carry the momentum into game two and got early offense as RJ Murphy hit a two-run home run in the first inning.

However, Clarks Summit got in the home run swing as well with a solo shot in the first and a two-run home run in the second to take a 3-2 lead.

The Wolves took the lead back as Derek Novicki (North Haven, Conn. / North Haven) drove in a pair on a single to right to make it 4-3.

The Keuka bats went cold following the single as the Wolves managed only one hit until the seventh following Novicki's single. During that time, the Defenders scored three runs and took a 5-4 lead into the final inning.

The Wolves loaded the bases to start the top of the seventh. A single by RJ Murphy tied the game and Matt Vaccaro worked a bases-loaded walk to give the Wolves the lead. Following an error that scored a run, Owen Garvey (Meadville, Pa. / Meadville Area) singled to add a run. Alex Evans then cleared the bases with a bases-loaded double to center that scored three. Keuka took an 11-5 lead and closed it out in the seventh for the doubleheader sweep.

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves return home to Kuhl Field this weekend for their Empire 8 series against Russell Sage College. Keuka College will host the Gators in a doubleheader on Saturday and then close the series with a single, nine-inning game on Sunday.
