William Paterson Baseball Captures 6-4 Road Win at New Jersey City

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The William Paterson baseball team (10-26, 5-11 NJAC) plated two runs in the ninth inning to capture a 6-4 road win at New Jersey City (14-21, 7-9 NJAC) April 26 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game.


HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Pioneers broke through first in the third inning when senior Jake Lutz launched a ball over the fence in left for a two-run home run to put WP ahead, 2-0.
  • In the fourth, sophomore Sean McAllister singled through the left side and eventually came all the way around to score on two costly errors by the Gothic Knights on a failed pickoff attempt that pushed the Pioneers' advantage to three (3-0).
  • NJCU scored a run in fourth and took the lead in the fifth (4-3) following a three-run frame.
  • William Paterson evened the score at 4-4 in the eighth after a solo home run by junior Giovanni Aresta.
  • The score remained tied heading into the ninth before freshman Ty Kobylakiewicz hit a leadoff double and scored on a two-run homer by junior RJ Mehnert to make it a two-run game (6-4).
  • Junior Nick Durso, who entered the game in the eighth inning, pitched a scoreless ninth frame to secure the 6-4 road win for WP.

 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Radigan finished 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
  • Lutz batted 2-for-5 with a home run, a run scored and an RBI.
  • Kobylakiewicz tallied two doubles and a run.
  • Mehnert and Aresta each recorded home runs and combined to drive in three runs.
  • Freshman Kevin Reiner tossed three scoreless frames in relief.
  • Durso earned his first win of the season.

  • William Paterson returns to Jeff Albies Field Saturday, April 27, for an NJAC doubleheader against Rutgers-Camden slated to start at 11:30 a.m. The Pioneers will honor their seven seniors following the conclusion of the second game.
