Keuka College Baseball Swept by Russell Sage

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Baseball team was swept in an Empire 8 doubleheader by Russell Sage College on a rainy Saturday at Kuhl Field.

Keuka College (8-23, 5-9 Empire 8) dropped the opener 19-2 and then fell in the nightcap to the Gators 17-4.

Russell Sage College 19 at Keuka College 2 – Game One

Russell Sage led for the duration of game one against the Wolves. The Gators scored in five of the seven innings.

Keuka plated a run in the second on a Matt Vaccaro (Fayetteville, N.Y. / Fayetteville-Manlius) groundout.

The Wolves added a run late as Sam O'Neil (Macedon, N.Y. / Ruben A. Cirillo) led off with a walk. He moved to third on a double by Kole Schmerder (Vestal, N.Y. / Vestal) can came home on a single by Jackson Loper (Riverhead, N.Y. / Riverhead). However, the Wolves would drop the opener to Russell Sage 19-2

Russell Sage College 17 at Keuka College 4 – Game Two

The Gators plated three in the second and one in the third against the Wolves. The damage could have been worse in the third, but Shane Daley (Elma, N.Y. / Iroquois) made a diving catch at second and doubled-up the runner at first for a double play.

After Sage added four in the fifth, the Wolves got on the board. Owen Garvey (Meadville, Pa. / Meadville Area) broke up the no-hitter with a single up the middle. He came around to score as Daley reached on an infield single and the ball was thrown away down the right field line. Alex Evans (Liverpool, N.Y. / Liverpool) followed with a single that scored Daley and made it 8-2.

Russell Sage added to their lead with four in the sixth and five in the seventh. Kyle Wood (Newark, N.Y. / Newark) had a hustle double and came around to score in the sixth. Shane Daley added an RBI single in the seventh, but the Gators would defeat the Wolves 17-4 for the Empire 8 sweep.

Up Next for Keuka College: The two teams will complete their series on Sunday afternoon with a single game at 1 p.m. It will also be Senior Day for the Keuka College Baseball team with the traditional ceremony prior to first pitch.
