Keuka College Baseball Falls on Senior Day to Russell Sage

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Baseball team lost on Senior Day to Russell Sage College 11-3 in an Empire 8 game at Kuhl Field on Sunday afternoon.

Senior James Fino (Buffalo, N.Y. / Bishop Timon) got the start on the mound for Keuka College (8-24, 5-10 Empire 8) and pitched into the seventh inning. The senior allowed just four hits and two runs over his 6.1 innings of work.

Fellow senior Brady Booher (Rochester, N.Y. / Eastridge) delivered the big hit for the Wolves, a three-run home run in the fourth inning.

The Wolves had a pair of nice defensive plays to end innings as well. In the fourth, Sage had a runner on second with one out. A ball was hit to left centerfield. Matt Vaccaro (Fayetteville, N.Y. / Fayetteville-Manlius) caught it and the runner attempted to tag. Vaccaro hit the cutoff man Tyler Lewandowski (Milltown, N.J. / Spotswood) would delivered a strike to Kyle Wood (Newark, N.Y. / Newark) at third base to tag out the runner for the double play to end the inning.

The Gators threatened again in the fifth, putting runners on the corners with no out. However, James Fino got a pair of routine flyballs to right and a groundout to escape the inning unharmed.

Two of the first three batters reached base in the seventh inning against Fino, ending his day. They both would come around to score but Jesse Capitano (Depew, N.Y. / Depew) got a strikeout to end the inning.

However, Russell Sage would get nine runs on seven hits and two Keuka errors in the eighth inning to take control of the game. The inning did end on a double play for the Wolves as Ian Ruhmel (Horseheads, N.Y. / Horseheads) caught the ball in center and doubled-up the runner at first base to end the inning.

The Wolves would be unable to recover as they lost to Russell Sage 11-3 on Sunday.

The Keuka College Baseball team is back in action on Tuesday as they play a non-conference at SUNY Brockport. The matchup with the Golden Eagles is non-conference this year, but will be a conference game next season as Brockport is joining the Empire 8.
