  • Emory: 23-14-1, 9-6-1 UAA.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Judges trailed, 3-0, headed into the sixth inning, but cut their deficit to one in the top of the sixth when junior catcher Justin Keeler (Seymour, Conn./St. Joseph's) delivered a two-run double.
  • Emory responded with four runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 7-2 lead.
  • In the top of the seventh, Brandeis answered with a pair of unearned runs, scoring when grad student Eddie Zanor (Branford, Conn./Notre Dame-West Haven)'s ground ball was booted, plating one run, and a Dylan Walsh (Arlington, Mass,/Arlington) grounder to first plated another, cutting the deficit to 7-4.
  • In the top of the eighth, Brandeis plated three unearned runs to tie things up. Grad student RF Jake Freed (Vernon Hills, Ill./Stevenson) drove in Chafin with a sacrifice fly. Grad student 3B Brian King (Palos Verde, Calif./Palos Verde) singled to short to make it 7-6, and after a walk to Zanor, first-year Tobei Nakajima (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) knocked one through the right side to knot the game at 7-all.
  • With two outs in the top of the ninth, the Judges rallied to take the lead, as first-year CF Connor Crowley (Guilford, Conn./Notre Dame-West Haven) singled up the middle and sophomore Alex Kim (Basking Ridge, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) put one through the right side. Freed then did the same putting Brandeis ahead, 8-7.
  • Brandeis grad student Marc Maestri (Katonah, N.Y./Somers) came on to pitch the bottom of the ninth. He walked the leadoff hitter and gave up a single through the right side to put two runners on. After the Eagles bunted the runners into scoring position, Brandeis called for an intentional walk. Pinch hitter Brandon Dincman delivered a game-tying sac fly for the second out, but Maestri got a foul out to right to send the game to extra innings.
  • In the top of the 10th, Zanor led off with a single up the middle. He was bunted into scoring position by Nakajima, and Walsh was intentionally walked. After a called third strike got the Eagles the second out, Chafin delivered the game-winning triple, blasting a 3-2 pitch to center field and scoring both runners after the centerfielder dove for the ball.
  • In the bottom of the 10th, Maestri walked the leadoff hitter, who moved to second on a wild pitch. Maestri took care of the next two outs, getting a called third strike for the first and snaring a line drive back up the middle for the second. Emory singled to put runners on the corners, but Maestri got a can-of-corn fly to center to end the game.
