Mustangs score second-inning run in loss to Blazers

FREDERICK, Md. – Stevenson baseball (5-7) opened 2024 conference play on Friday afternoon against the Hood College Blazers (9-3), ending with an 8-1 loss.
 
The Mustangs scored their lone run in the top of the second on a single from junior infield Brandon Perillo with two on base as junior catcher Matt Perri advanced to third and first-year outfield Christopher Manco returning home.
 
The Blazers quickly surpassed the Mustangs in the bottom of the second, scoring four runs.
 
Despite the loss, the Mustangs totaled six hits and an error, two walks, and five left on base for the team,  with an RBI to Perillo.
 
Three Mustangs pitched on the afternoon, with senior Kyle Pellegrino going 3 innings with three strikeouts on six hits, six runs, and six walks. Sophomore Matt Gordon struck out one on two walks, two runs and three hits.
 
The Mustangs host the Hood College Blazers in a doubleheader tomorrow, Saturday, March 16, for a seven-and-seven doubleheader beginning at noon at East Campus.
