Killer B’s Buoy #22 RMC Baseball past Etown

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Junior Bere Bauers (Phoenixville, Pa./Devon Prep) tossed 7.1 scoreless innings with eight strikeouts, senior Grayson Bush (Charlottesville, Va./Monticello) had two doubles and a run, and sophomore Eli Brooks (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) had two RBI as the 22nd-ranked and second-seeded Randolph-Macon baseball team blanked third-seeded Elizabethtown 4-0 in the first round of the Harrisburg Regional.

The Basics:

Score: Randolph-Macon 4, Elizabethtown 0

Venue: Nittany Field

Records: RMC 29-13, EC 31-13

How It Happened:

  • After leaving the bases loaded in the top of the first, the Yellow Jackets got on the scoreboard in the second. Senior Richie Dudley (Fairfax, Va./W.T. Woodson) had a leadoff single and went to third on a double to right by Bush. Brooks delivered a sacrifice fly to right that brought home Dudley with the game's first run. Bush went to third on the fly ball by Brooks and scored on a wild pitch to give RMC a 2-0 edge.
  • Bauers left with one out in the top of the eighth. He went through the lineup three times and allowed three hits, all singles, with one walk and eight punchouts.
  • RMC added insurance in the eighth. Senior Matt Myers (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Dudley sacrificed him to second. Myers went to third on a groundout by Bush and came home on a base hit by Brooks to make it 3-0. Freshman Jon Quici (Paoli, Pa./Conestoga) reached on an error and a single by sophomore Carter Schmitt (Glen Allen, Va./St. Christopher's) plated Brooks to give the Yellow Jackets a 4-0 advantage.
  • Junior Sam Slevin (Virginia Beach, Va./Frank Cox) was perfect over the final 1.2 innings with one strikeout to record his 11th save, a program record and the top mark in Division III this season.
