Bowdoin and Swarthmore played their first home baseball games in over 1,000 days. Bowdoin had 1,067 days between home games and Swarthmore had a two day longer wait 91,069 games).
With a 10-5 win over Amherst in the second game of today’s doubleheader in Florida, head coach Mike Connolly won his 400th career game. He is just the 2nd coach at Bowdoin, in any sport, to reach the 400-win mark.
Out of fear of the potential spread of the COVID-19 virus, Amherst sent its students home, followed by Middlebury, then Tufts, and finally, the entire NESCAC spring sports slate has been canceled.
Cliff Smith, the Elizabethtown's second all-time winningest coach with 254 victories, announced that he is stepping down after 11 seasons to pursue a new professional opportunity.
Ranked teams came away with wins on Friday except for Tufts who fell to Bowdoin in extra innings. Houghton and Wartburg also earned wins over ranked teams, splitting doubleheaders on the day.
Rain won out on the final day of the NESCAC Championship, forcing the cancellation of the title game between Bowdoin and Tufts. Tufts was awarded the championship and Pool A playoff bid.
