The Team of the Week is D3baseball.com's weekly honor roll, in
its second season of recognizing the top performers at each of nine
positions from the previous week. Players are selected from
nominations from their school's sports information directors. This
is the sixth Team of the Week of the 2013 season.
Through games of March 18-24, 2013
C Nick Bunce, Sr., Brockport St.
Bunce, in his second appearance in the D3baseball.com Team of the
Week, hit .478 (11-for-23). He drove in eight and scored eight in B
in six games. Bunce did not commit an error and threw out the only
runner who attempted to steal.
1B Michael Morelli, Sr., Mt. St. Mary (N.Y.)
Morelli batted .667 (14-for-21) with 17 RBI as the Knights went
3-3 on the week. During Sunday's doubleheader with Maritime,
Morelli went 6-for-7 with four home runs, six runs, and seven RBI.
He had a seven RBI in a single game against New Paltz on March
18.
2B Tom Rydzewski, So., Farmingdale State
Rydzewski batted .500 (5-for-10) in a 3-1 week for the Rams. He
drove in five and scored once. Rydzewski drew four walks and stole
four bases in four attempts.
SS Joe Forcellini, So., Centenary
(N.J.)
Forcellini went 8-for-11 in four games, adding two doubles, two
triples, and a walk including a 4-4 performance in the win over
Gwynedd-Mercy where he recorded both triples and a double to give
the Cyclones their first win over the Griffins since the 2010
season.
3B Bill Parave, Sr., Penn St.-Abington
Parave was phenomenal at the plate, batting .722 (13-for-18) with
eight RBI, five runs scored, three doubles and two stolen bases
while registering an on-base percentage of .750 and a slugging
percentage of .889 to lead his squad to a 4-1 week. He also won a
start on the mound after pitching all nine innings of the 5-4 game
two victory, where he struck out two batters.
OF William Bissell, Jr., Gallaudet
Bissell, the NEAC Player of the Week, batted .429 (9-for-21) with
two home runs, 10 RBIs, six runs and two stolen bases in six games
last week for the Gallaudet University Bison in Florida during
their Spring Break. He had the game-winning hit over Rowan to give
the Bison their first-ever win over a nationally ranked team.
OF Quinlan Milne Rojek, Fr., Dominican (Ill.)
Rojek went 8-for-10 (.800) for the Stars in a weekend series with
the Millikin Big Blue. The freshman raised his batting average .171
points to .371 as he hit for the cycle in the Stars' game one
victory, going 6-for-6 at plate. For the day he collected five
singles, a double, a triple and a home run while driving in six
runs. He is the first player in program history to hit for the
cycle.
OF Hayden Tsutsui, Fr., Carleton
Tsutsui, the MIAC Player of the Week, had multi-hit performances
in all six of his team's games, batting .679 (19-for-28) with 8
extra-base hits (5 doubles, 3 homers) for a 1.179 slugging
percentage. He had a .700 OBP with only one strikeout in 30 plate
appearances, while accumulating 9 runs and 14 RBI.
DH Phillip Windham, Jr., East Texas
Baptist
Windham went 6-for-14 (.428) with two home runs and five RBIs over
a 2-2 week for the Tigers. Windham also walked twice.
SP Bristan Clingaman, Sr., Concordia (TX)
Clingaman, the ASC-West Division Pitcher of the Week, threw the
first nine-inning shutout since Pedro Maldonado accomplished the
feat on April 16, 2011. In addition to striking out five, not
issuing a walk and yielding only two hits, Clingaman only allowed
one baserunner to reach second base to help the Tornados defeat Sul
Ross State by a 6-0 score on Friday, March 22.
SP Andor Kesselman, Jr.,
Claremont-Mudd-Scripts
Kesselman pitched a three-hit shutout with a career high 12
strikeouts including 4 in one inning. On the season, leads team in
wins, strikeouts, innings pitched and ERA.
SP Steven Ramsdell, So., Allegheny
Ramsdell dominated from the mound over spring break, recording two
complete-game shutouts and a no-hitter. The sophomore transfer
no-hit Hamilton, in an 11-0, six-inning affair on Friday, March 13,
striking out six. Earlier in the week, Ramsdell struck out a pair
of batters and recorded a 1-0, complete game shutout against
Plattsburgh State.
RP Michael Grewe, So., Johns Hopkins
Grewe was phenomenal on the mound in relief for the Jays, totaling
seven strikeouts and no earned runs in just three innings of work
to notch his first and second career saves. He struck out five of
the seven batters he faced against Wooster on March 19.
