The Team of the Week is D3baseball.com's weekly honor roll, honoring performers at each position from the previous week. Players are selected from nominations from their school's sports information directors. This is the final Team of the Week of the 2017 season.
Games of May 1-7, 2017
C Mike Myers, Sr., Rochester Tech.
Myers batted .333 (6-for-18) for the RIT Tigers. Myers hit a towering go-ahead two-run homer that broke a 4-4 tie and put RIT in front for good in an eventual 9-5 win over ationally ranked St. John Fisher. He also doubled twice with four RBIs and five runs scored on the week. He was flawless behind the plate for RIT.
1B Anthony Nomakeo, Sr., Brandeis
Nomakeo batted .500 (4-for-8) in two games for Brandeis. Nomakeo had never homered in college and had driven in just three runs all season entering a contest with UMass-Dartmouthand went 3-5 with two home runs and seven RBI, becoming the first Judge to launch two bombs in a contest since 2012 and just the fourth to do so since 2005. Nomakeo also came in to pitch the ninth inning against the Corsairs and struck out two of the four batters he faced.
2B Edward Malinoski, Jr., SUNY-Canton
Malinoski hit .571 (4-for-7) with two walks, a .667 on-base percentage, 1.429 slugging percentage as he finished with a home run, three doubles, five runs and drove in four runs in a 2-0 week for the Roos.
SS Tyler Hoops, Fr., Pitt-Bradford
In four games for the Panthers, Hoops hit .533 with three extra base hits, including two home runs, nine RBIs, 11 runs scored and slugged 1.133 for the week. In a must-win 5-0 victory over Medaille, he accounted for three of the team's five runs, helping the Panthers secure a postseason berth in the final game of the regular season.
3B Seth Douglas, Sr., SUNY-Canton
Douglas hit .556 (5-for-9) with two home runs, three runs, a double, and drove in seven runs in a 2-0 week for the Roos. He finishes the season with nine home runs and 39 RBI. His nine home runs breaks his own single-season home run record and also owns the career home run record with 20 long balls.
OF Collin Einertson, Sr., DePauw
Einertson hit safely in all five games, batting .526 (10-for-19) with eight RBIs and six runs scored. He had two doubles, two triples and a home run. Twice over the week Einertson fell a home run shy of hitting for the cycle.
OF Matt Koperniak, Fr., Trinity (Conn.)
Koperniak batted .538 (7-for-13) with a .684 on-base percentage and a 1.154 slugging percentage in four Trinity wins with eight runs and six RBIs.
OF Steve Morganelli, Gr., Endicott
Morganelli posted a .471/.583/.824 slash line to go along with six runs scored, eight hits, three triples, seven RBIs, five walks, and four stolen bases on four attempts.
DH Lenin Gomez, Fr. New Jersey City
In NJCU's 12-2 win over regionally-ranked NYU on May 3 to get the Gothic Knights playoff-eligible, Gomez went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored.
SP Caleb Boushley, Sr., UW-La Crosse
Boushley recorded his fifth complete-game of the season and second shutout in UWL's 11-0 at UW-Platteville. He went 8.0 innings, allowing three hits and one walk while tying his career-high with 12 strikeouts. Boushley set two school records in the win over UW-Platteville, becoming UWL's career leader in innings (241.2) and strikeouts (205).
SP Chuck Gibson, Sr., Suffolk
Gibson tossed a complete-game, three-hit, shutout to lead Suffolk to its third consecutive GNAC Championship, the program's seventh overall. The senior from Malden, Massachusetts, fanned the final four hitters, the last batter in the eighth, and the side in the ninth, all looking, to finish the day with eight strikeouts and secure the 1-0 Rams title victory.
SP Connor McDonald, So, Monmouth
McDonald was at his best when Monmouth needed him most on Sunday afternoon. Needing a win to keep their postseason hopes alive, the sophomore flirted with a no-hitter in a 12-0 win over Knox. McDonald gave up just one hit in the first inning and shut down the Fire offense the rest of the way facing the minimum from the second inning on. McDonald fanned eight and walked no one in his seven inning complete game victory.
SP Kyle Uhrich, Sr., Webster
Uhrich threw a two-hit, nine-inning shutout in a 5-0 win over Fontbonne. He walked just one and struck out nine. For good measure, Uhrich went 5-for-10 (.500) at the plate with four doubles, four RBIs, and three runs scored.
RP Scott Kutschke, Fr., Case Western Reserve
Kutschke recorded saves in both games of a doubleheader against Baldwin Wallace on Sunday. Kutschke pitched a combined 2.1 innings over the two games, allowing just one hit and striking out one batter. In the opening game of the doubleheader, he entered the game with the bases loaded and one out in the eighth inning, proceeding to record the final two outs of the frame and retire the side in order in the ninth for an 8-5 CWRU win. In the late game, the left-handed pitcher entered the contest with the team leading 8-5 in the bottom of the 10th with one out and the bases loaded, and needed just one pitch to induce a game-ending 6-4-3 double play.
