D3baseball.com Team of the Week

The Team of the Week is D3baseball.com's weekly honor roll, in its seventh season of recognizing the top performers at each of nine positions from the previous week. Players are selected from nominations from their school's sports information directors. This is the twelfth Team of the Week of the 2018 season.

Games of April 23-29, 2018

C  Richard Carey, Fr.,  Penn St.-Altoona

Carey had an impressive week at the plate, helping the Lions go 6-0, including a pair of AMCC doubleheader sweeps. The freshman catcher hit .688 (11-for-16) with five RBIs, five runs scored, two walks, one double, and one stolen base. He had an on-base percentage of .684 and slugged .750.

1B  Sean Lawrence, Jr., Thomas More

Lawrence led the Saints at the plate last week as the team went 4-1, including doubleheader sweeps with Geneva and Hanover. He batted .500 as he was 9-of-18 with three home runs, one double, seven RBIs and eight runs scored. Lawrence had a 1.056 slugging percentage and a .591 on-base percentage. He also had a 0.00 ERA on the mound as he pitched seven innings.

2B  Sean McKee, Jr., King's (Pa.)

McKee hit .538 and had a 1.231 slugging percentage to lead King's to a 3-0 record including a doubleheader sweep at Delaware Valley to stay alive for the final conference tournament spot. The junior had seven hits in 13 at-bats including four doubles, a triple, and his first career home run. He also knocked in six and scored six times. McKee was perfect in the field recording six putouts and eight assists on 14 chances.

SS  Mike Manetta, Fr., Old Westbury

Manetta helped Old Westbury advance to Skyline Conference Championship for the 11th-straight season. He batted .714 (10-for-14) with eight RBIs and six runs scored. He slugged 1.214 as four of his hits went for extra bases (two doubles, triple, and a home run). He stole three bases also on the week.

3B  John Brinkman, So., Washington (Mo.)

Brinkman scorched the baseball this past weekend in helping Washington earn a 4-0 sweep of Brandeis Overall, he finished the series 9-for-16 (.569), with six of his hits going for extra bases as his slugging percentage was 1.125 for the weekend. In addition, Brinkman knocked in 11 runs, drew two walks, was hit by a pitch, stole a base and scored five runs. He had back-to-back games which he finished one extra base hit away from hitting for the cycle including a 4-for-4 performance on Friday with two doubles, a triple and a UAA record tying seven RBI. Brinkman also found his way onto the mound and earned his first save of the season Saturday.

OF  Cole Migliorini, Sr., Randolph-Macon

Migliorini led the team with eight hits, two home runs, seven RBIs, .727 batting average (8-for-11), 1.455 slugging percentage, .800 on-base percentage. He had three multi-hit games and two games with multi-runs and multi-RBIs.

OF  Riley Schaefer, Sr., Texas Lutheran

Schaefer put up a .538 batting average going a combined 7-for-13 over the weekend, with seven RBIs and seven runs scored for the Bulldogs. Schaefer collected a double, a triple and two home runs in the conference series producing a 1.231 slugging percentage overall. He also had two stolen bases.

OF  Grant Myers, Sr., Monmouth (Ill.)

Myers continued his hot hitting in five games last week driving in eight runs, scoring seven with a .588 average (10-for-17) and 1.059 slugging percentage. By the end of the week, opposing pitchers had seen enough of Myers as he drew four walks in a nonconference loss.

DH  John Leach, Sr., Bethel (Minn.)

Leach had an incredible week where he was 16-of-29 (.552) with 12 RBI and eight runs. He hit four doubles and three home runs for a 1.000 slugging percentage. One of his home runs was a three-run, walkoff home run against Gustavus. Another was a three-run home run that gave Bethel a 6-5 lead late in game two against Gustavus. He also earned a win in relief on the mound.

SP  Matt Cronin, Jr., Mass.-Dartmouth

Cronin took a no-hitter one out into the ninth inning against Eastern Connecticut State in game one on Saturday, retiring as many as ten straight across the fourth through seventh innings of the LEC affair. While the no-no was broken up with a hard ground ball up the middle that was knocked down by the diving second baseman, the junior completed his afternoon with 8.1 innings, surrendering just one hit and an unearned run while striking out five.

SP  Quinn Dipasquale, Sr., Stevens Institute

Dipasquale struck out 12 as he threw his first career shutout in Stevens' 8-0 Empire 8 regular season title-clinching victory over Utica. DiPasquale allowed just a fourth-inning double and struck out multiple batters in five different innings.

SP  Cam Graham, Fr., Husson

Graham won his second game of the season with the twelfth no-hitter in Husson history.  He pitched seven innings, allowed no runs, no hits, walked two, and struck out seven.

SP  Brendan McNerney, Jr., Rensselaer

McNerney was perfect through 5.2 innings of a 1-0 complete game shutout victory over Clarkson on Sunday, striking out five and walking just one. He finished with two base hits allowed in the contest.

RP  Mike Formella, Sr., Concordia-Chicago

Formella saved five games during the Cougars' 7-1 week. He pitched 11.2 innings, including stints of four and three innings in two of the games. Formella struck out 14, walked none and allowed just two hits and no runs. Sunday's save was his 12th of the year, leaving him one shy of tying CUC's season record and just two saves shy of tying CUC's career record.
