D3baseball.com Team of the Week

The Team of the Week is D3baseball.com's weekly honor roll, in its eighth season of recognizing the top performers at each of nine positions from the previous week. Players are selected from nominations from their school's sports information directors. This is the second Team of the Week of the 2019 season.

Games of February 11-17, 2019

C  Eric O'Brien, So., Christopher Newport

O' Brien appeared in one of CNU's two games this week and reached base in four of his five plate appearances, He batted .750 (3-for-4) with a double and a walk, driving in a pair and scoring twice. He caught the only would-be base stealer in the game against Millsaps.

1B  Jack Bartlewski, Jr., Oglethorpe

In Sunday's wild 19-13 win over George Fox, Bartlewski had a career day, going 4-for-5 with a grand slam, a triple, a sacrifice fly, eight RBIs, and two runs scored. The eight RBIs broke the Oglethorpe single-game record. Bartlewski finished the week 7-for-10 (.700) with ten RBIs and three runs scored.

2B  Dillon Sievert, Sr., Spalding

Seivert hit a leadoff home run in his first at-bat of the season in opener vs. UW-Whitewater and went on to bat .417 (5-for-13) with six runs, two stolen bases, and two RBIs in three games. Seivert also started on the mound earning a win over No. 2 UW-Whitewater.

SS  Cameron Upton, Sr., Gallaudet

The Bison's shortstop had a strong start to the 2019 season as Upton went 5-for-6 at the plate (.833), scored five times, drove in four runs, stole four bases and hit one double and one triple as Gallaudet swept Valley Forge 21-3 and 12-3 on Opening Day last Friday. He slugged 1.333 at the plate and had an on base percentage of .889.

3B  Jerred Seamons, Sr., George Fox

Seamons went 5-for-10 (.500) at the plate over the weekend with two home runs and a team-high six RBIs. He walked twice and recorded a 1.200 slugging percentage and .583 on-base percentage.

OF  Jared Demkowicz, Jr., Sewanee

Demkowicz may have only three at-bats on the weekend, but the junior, who was the leadoff hitter in each game, recorded four free passes and two hit by pitches for a .889 on-base percentage in nine plate appearances. One of this two hits went for a home run and Demkowicz scored five and drove in four as the opposing pitchers pitched around the outfielder.

OF  Heath Haskins, Jr., Huntingdon

Haskin slashed .455/.429/.818 as he had five hits in 11 at-bats. He drove in eight and score a run as the Hawks stayed perfect in their win-loss record.

OF  Nick Polizzano, Jr., Kean

Polizzano helped Kean to a 3-0 season opening weekend. He led the team in batting .500 (5-for-10) with two doubles and three RBIs. He scored twice with two walks.

DH  Jacob Bockelie, Sr., Pacific Lutheran

Bockelie blasted three home runs and a double and racked up 11 RBIs in three games in Georgia. He finished 5-for-13 (.385) with a 1.154 slugging percentage.

SP Trey Holland, So., Sewanee

Holland picked up where he left off last weekend in Saturday's game one start against MacMurray. The sophomore tossed seven shutout innings, allowing two hits and a walk and punching out a career-best 11. Dating back to last season, Holland has not allowed an earned run in his last 23 innings on the mound.

SP  Austin Smith, So., Southwestern (Tex.)

Smith was dominant in the Pirates' season opener, setting the tone early by striking out the side in the first inning, and finishing strong through his complete-game, 16-strikeout effort. Smith struck out six of the first seven hitters he faced and twice struck out the side, helping the Pirates' defense put together four three-and-out innings while giving up only five hits and two walks.

SP  Luke Summers, Jr., Fontbonne

Summers dominated with the Griffins in the season opener as he struck out a career-high 15 hitters in 8.0 innings of work against Greenville.  He allowed three hits and two walks in the 3-1 win.

RP  Jack Brodsky, Fr., Emory

Brodsky collected two wins in relief as the Eagles went 2-1 during the opening week. Brodsky pitched 3.2 innings total allowing just one hit to go along with four strikeouts during his two outings. He tossed a scoreless ninth in the opener against LaGrange and went 2.2 scoreless in the win over Whitworth on Saturday.
