The Team of the Week is D3baseball.com's weekly honor roll, in its eighth season of recognizing the top performers at each of nine positions from the previous week. Players are selected from nominations from their school's sports information directors. This is the tenth Team of the Week of the 2019 season.
Games of April 8-14, 2019
C Michael Barnes, Sr., Ripon
Barnes batted .714 (15-for-21) with five extra-base hits (four double and a home run). He slugged 1.048 with six RBIs and 12 runs scored. He was perfect behind the plate, throwing out all three runners who tried to steal a base on the week. Barnes' five hits against Beloit are tied for third in program history for a single game.
1B Catcher Cumming, Jr., Penn St.-Altoona
Catcher had another big week with the bat, posting three multi-hit performances in five games played, as he batted .692 (9-for-13) with nine RBIs, five runs scored, three walks, two home runs, one double, and one stolen base. He posted a .706 on-base percentage and slugged 1.231.
2B Justin Scanlon, Jr., Willamette
Scanlon hit a home run in all three games and finished the weekend with five runs and 10 RBIs, as Willamette swept a series at George Fox. He batted .563 (9-for-16) on his way to a 1.313 slugging percentage. He also hit one double and one triple. On defense, he recorded 10 putouts, 11 assists and no errors.
SS Nick Bledsoe, So., Illinois Tech
This week, Bledsoe went 11-for-14 with two home runs, three doubles, a triple, nine RBIs and six runs scored while not striking out once. He slashed .786/.824/1.571 which totals an OPS of 2.395.
3B Seth Woodard, Sr., Christopher Newport
Rain limited CNU to just a single game this week, but Woodard drove in five runs in five plate appearances. He was 2-for-4 (.500) with a grand slam and three runs scored. He also picked up his 31st walk of the season as he approaches the CNU single season record. Woodard was solid defensively with four assists without an error.
OF Christian Jones, Jr., Catholic
Jones had a career week for the Cardinals. In four games, the junior outfielder had went 9-for-12 with 10 RBIs. He had three home runs in the stretch after having just one in his previous two seasons. In addition to a .750 average, he put together a 1.583 slugging percentage.
OF Nate Tholl, Sr., Webster
For the week, Tholl hit .700 and had a slugging percentage of 1.200 and an on-base percentage of .769 as he had seven hits in 10 at-bats to help the Gorloks to a three game sweep over Iowa Wesleyan. In the series against IWU, Tholl had at least two hits in all three games, with four RBIs, scored two runs, hit two doubles, a home run and was 2-for-3 on stolen bases.
OF Keegan Woolford, Jr., Shenandoah
Woolford had a fantastic week, as the Hornets went 3-1. For the week, Woolford was 8-for-17 (.471) with six runs scored, 13 RBIs. He hit a double and three home runs as he posted a 1.059 slugging percentage. With four walks, Woolford got on base at a .571 clip.
DH Andrew Miller, Worcester St.
Miller hit safely in each of Worcester State's seven games this week, with RBIs in six of seven. Miller hit three home runs, drove in nine runs, and scored six runs while batting .435 (10-for-23) with a slugging percentage of .913.
SP Jonathan Cole, Jr., Franklin & Marshall
Cole produced a career outing on Saturday against No. 9 Swarthmore as the junior righty tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits and striking out eight in a crucial 1-0 win for Franklin & Marshall.
SP Zack Landy, Sr., Alvernia
Landy threw a one-hit complete-game shutout against Albright in a 7-0 win. Landy allowed just one hit, no runs, no walks and struck out five batters. The Lions were held to a .043 batting average.
SP Colin Nye, Jr., Union
Nye pitched a one-hitter in the first game against Bard on Saturday. He conceded no earned runs in the 3-1 win and the lone hit came in the seventh inning.
SP Diego Ramirez, Fr., Occidental
Ramirez threw a two-hitter in a seven inning win over Caltech on Saturday. He struck out six batters with no walks and no earned runs.
RP Bobby Tramondozzi, Sr., Mass-Boston
In two appearances Tramondozzi he did not allow a run and surrendered just two hits in 3.1 innings of work. He recorded a total of four strikeouts including three in the game two against Eastern Connecticut State and one 1.1 innings of work against third-ranked Southern Maine, earning a save in both games.
RP Joseph Prisco, So., New York University
Prisco earned save No. 6 and 7 as the Violets stopped Washington U's 13 game win streak on Sunday. He finished the final two innings in each contest, with a total of two hits allowed and no walks.
