Brevard and Pfeiffer Primed for First of Five Meetings on Wednesday

BREVARD, N.C. - The two newest members of the USA South Conference - Brevard College and Pfeiffer University - are set to meet as the Tornados (3-2) and Falcons (3-3) face off for the first of five scheduled non-conference meetings between the two sides this season. BC heads to Misenheimer, North Carolina on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. first pitch.

The Presidents of the USA South Athletic Conference have agreed to adjust the Conference's policy on spectators attending any outdoor sporting event hosted by a USA South institution regardless of opponent.

The amended policy limits spectators to two per participating student-athlete, plus students, faculty and staff of the host institution while abiding with all local and state social distancing and capacity directives. No spectators of visiting teams will be permitted to attend. This adjusted policy went into effect for all events beginning on Friday, February 26th.

The Tornados last were in action in a three-game road series on February 27-28, where Brevard swept Averett University. Brevard's three-game sweep of Averett gave the Tornados their best start since the 2019 season, when BC also kicked off the season with a 3-2 mark, as well as their first sweep since the 2018 campaign.

Freshman right-handed pitcher Trenten Anderson garnered the USA South Conference Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week award following his performance in the series.

Anderson, a freshman from Orange City, Florida, hurled seven innings of shutout ball in the second game of a three-game sweep for the Tornados – the first for Brevard since the 2018 campaign when the Tornados swept Berea on the road. The righty struck out nine Averett batters while scattering a pair of hits in just his second career start.

Brevard's pitching staff has impressed through the early stages of the regular season. Anderson, Matthew Scavotto, and Ben Melton all have sub-four ERA's through their first five starts.

Pfeiffer fell in two-out-of-three against Greensboro before taking two-out-of-three from Methodist last weekend. The Falcons have been led by Jake Brown (.407) and Bryan Kowalski (.400) offensively, while Thad Lewis and Nathan Ray each have nine strikeouts.

Following action on Wednesday, the Tornados return to Gil Coan Field on Friday for an afternoon doubleheader against William Peace University at 1 and 3:30 p.m.
