D3baseball.com Team of the Week

The Team of the Week is D3baseball.com's weekly honor roll, in its eighth season of recognizing the top performers at each of nine positions from the previous week. Players are selected from nominations from their school's sports information directors. This is the first Team of the Week of the 2019 season.

Games of January 29 - February 10, 2019

C  Alec Babb, So., Oglethorpe

Babb batted .545 (6-for-11) with three doubles, a run scored, four RBI and a stolen base in three games to start the season. He handled all 21 chances without an error.

1B  John Tucker, Sr., Trinity (Tex.)

Tucker led the fourth-ranked Tigers to a pair of wins over No. 8 Cortland to open up the 2019 season. He hit .556 (5-for-9) with two runs scored and seven RBI in the weekend series that marked the first regular season meeting between the two teams.

2B  Ryan Galan, Sr., La Verne

Galen batted .500 (9-for-18) for the Leopards as they opened the season 3-1. He scored seven and drove in 10 while swiping three bases.

SS  Chadwick Feeley, Sr., Washington and Lee

The Generals' senior slashed .462/.429/.538 in Washington and Lee's opening weekend. Feeley score three times and drove in five as his team started the season 3-0.

3B  Jeremy Jess, Jr., Pomona-Pitzer

Jess had three hits in four trips to the plate (.750) as Pomona-Pitzer won their opener against Puget Sound. He had a hand in half of the Sagehen runs as he score three and drove in four. With a double and a home run, he slugged 1.750.

OF  Jack Brancheau, Sr., Occidental

Brancheau got Occidental off to a 3-0 start to the season with three blowout wins. The senior centerfielder hit .625 (5-for-8) with an on base percentage of .800 and a slugging percentage of 1.125. He had a double and a home run and drove in four runs and had five runs scored. After starting game two with a home run, Puget Sound proceeded to walk him four times in a row.

OF  Jason Garcia, Jr., George Fox

Garcia led the Bruins to a 2-2 weekend and team-high .714 batting average (10-for-14). He had a 1.214 slugging percentage and a .733 on-base percentage. He had two doubles, one triple, one home run, to go with eight RBIs and six runs scored.

OF  Brett Leiferman, Jr., Concordia-Texas

Leiferman batted .727 (8-for-11) in three games for the Tornados. He scored five times and drove in five more. He was perfect for nine chances in the field with an assist.

DH  Wyatt Myers, Jr., Cortland

Myers batted .571 (4-for-7) with a homer, double, walk, five RBIs and three runs scored in a pair of games at nationally fourth-ranked Trinity (Texas). He went 2-for-3 with a double, walk, three RBI and two runs scored Saturday and finished 2-for-4 with a solo homer and two RBI Sunday.

SP  Trey Holland, So., Sewanee

In his 2019 debut, Holland tossed five shutout innings to earn the victory in Sewanee's 7-3 win over Guilford. The sophomore did not allow a hit through the first 4.1 innings on the mound. He also fanned six batters.

SP Carden Mellown, Jr., Huntingdon

Mellown scattered three hits in 7.0 innings as Huntingdon blanked Berea 2-0, He did not walk a batter and struckout eight.

SP  Matthew Young, Jr., Whitworth

Whitworth opened their season with NAIA College of Idaho and Young spun a gem. He allowed just three hits and no walks while striking out six as the Pirates opened theri season with a win for the second straight year.

RP  Nick Garcia, So., Chapman

Garcia faced 13 batters this weekend and struck out seven of them. He entered the game against Pacific up 5-3 with one out and the bases loaded and struck out the next two batters to end the game and earn his first career save. In three innings against Piedmontm he earned the win in the Panther's comeback victory, striking out five and allowing three baserunners.
