| After waiting an additional three days to open USA South play, Covenant made a statement with a doubleheader sweep of Maryville on Monday on the road. Covenant took game one, 4-2, before completing the sweep with a 3-2 victory in the nightcap. Covenant has won seven straight games. Grady Paine drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth and Mikey Rivera closed things out to give Denison a 6-5 win over Ferrum in the rubber match of the season-opening three-game series on Monday. First-year left-hander Will McManaman made his first career start on the mound for Denison and was outstanding. He went five innings, allowing only two runs off five hits while striking out three. Henry Haack took over in the sixth and worked two perfect frames, striking out a pair before giving way to Rivera.
Just a day after scoring a combined 24 runs in their first two games of their spring trip on Sunday, Saint Mary's (Minn.) picked up right where it left off. Coming off an 11-1 win over Cabrini and a 13-8 victory against Milwaukee School of Engineering, the Cardinals got two more shots at the Raiders in a nonconference doubleheader on Monday — and the Cardinals once against feasted on MSOE pitching. Saint Mary's banged out 10 hits and scored four of its five runs in the first two innings in beating the Raiders 5-3 in Game 1. The Cardinals completed the sweep in convincing fashion, recording a second-straight 10-hit attack in rolling to a 10-2 victory.
Wabash closed out its season-opening series at Rhodes College with a split of Monday's doubleheader versus the host Lynx. The Little Giants won game one 7-3 prior to a 4-2 loss in a seven-inning game in the series finale. Wabash took the series two game to one in their season opening season. Rhodes stays a game below .500 at 4-5.
Looking to bounce back after a 2-1 defeat to Benedictine (Ill.) (1-2) Sunday night, Hendrix (8-2) tallied two runs in the second inning, one run in the fourth and a go-ahead run after Ford Sherrington scored in the eighth inning as the Warriors sought revenge and defeated the Eagles 4-3. Hendrix improves to 8-2 on the season in head coach Sean McSheffrey's first 10 games as the Warriors' head man.

Three Rose-Hulman pitchers combined on an Opening Day shutout as the Fightin' Engineers defeated Alma 1-0 in the baseball spring trip opener. Luke Buehler tossed seven shutout innings to pick up the victory. Buehler allowed just two singles and two walks with nine strikeouts in seven innings of work. Stone Brogan and Ben Yoss added scoreless innings to secure the Rose-Hulman win. Brogan pitched out of a second-and-third, no-out jam with two strikeouts and a popout. Yoss retired all three hitters he faced to pick up the save. The Rose-Hulman offense had chances to add extra runs, but a strong pitching performance by Alma kept the game close. Joseph Barrons tossed six shutout innings with seven strikeouts for the Scots before turning the game over to the bullpen.
Transylvania wrapped up its season-opening series by gaining its first win of the 2019 season in forging a two-game split against the No. 16 Webster Gorloks at GCS Ballpark. The Pioneers reeled off a thrilling 2-1, 14-inning victory against Webster in Game 1 of the day before Webster salvaged a 4-3 victory in the nightcap. In the top of the 14th, Henry Molloy singled to left centerfield, scoring Wade Lopiccolo to hand the Pioneers a 2-1 lead. Max Medley earned the first win of his career in his collegiate debut for Transylvania, pitching the final three innings without allowing a Webster run.
LaGrange opened its USA South schedule with a sweep of N.C. Wesleyan in a doubleheader at Baur Field. The Panthers rallied from a 4-2 deficit to win the first game, 7-5. Freshmen Cael Chatham and Liam Moreno each hit home runs to power LC's second win by a score of 6-3. The two home runs were the first ones of the season for the Panthers.
Pomona-Pitzer, in a non-conference matchup against Castleton ended with a lopsided domination as the Sagehens crushed the Spartans 17-5. Sophomore Jackson Patterson-Kohout had a monstrous game at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a grand slam, double, and a triple. He posted a team-high 8 RBIs with three runs. On the mound, Seth Stone threw for five innings and collected six strikeouts for his first win of the season.
Northern Vermont University-Lyndon rode the pitching of seniors Jake Jourdain, John Boulay, and Ben Rollins to a 4-1 victory in their opening game at the 2019 RussMatt Central Florida Invitational on Monday morning. Lyndon is scheduled to play ten games over the next week before heading back to Vermont. Capital is winless in four starts so far at RussMatt. Jourdain scattered three hits and struck out six over seven innings to earn the win, while Capital starter Anthony Gannon took the loss.
