PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – The Arcadia baseball team swept Messiah in a doubleheader in almost perfect fashion on Saturday in Port St. Lucie, Fla. With the wins, the Knights have won four of their last five games, improving to 6-4 on the season. The Falcons have now lost four in a row, dropping to 4-5 on the campaign.

Arcadia 6, Messiah 0
Tyler Showers was near perfect on the bump for Arcadia as he recorded the program's second ever no-hitter, leading the Knights to victory. Former Knights' hurler Matt Melcher no-hit Gwyneed-Mercy in the first round of the 2002 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) tournament in an Arcadia 4-0. 
 
Showers needed only 87 pitches to accomplish the feat as he struck out six, with his only blemish coming on a lead-off walk to start the fourth inning.
 
The Knights supplied offensive support right out of the gate as Phil Pierfy hammered a double into left field in the first inning, bringing around Carew to score, who tallied a double of his own in the frame.
 
With Showers cruising, the game moved along until the fourth when AU broke the game open with four runs in the frame on a two-run double by Gillen, a sacrifice fly by Towey and capped off by a mad dash home by Gillen on a wild pitch.
 
A single by Mattson in the sixth to plate Carew was the game's final tally giving the Knights the 6-0 win.
 
The Scarlet & Grey recorded double digits in hits for the sixth time this season as they knocked 10 hits around the park, led by two hits apiece for Carew and Ernst.
 
Ethan Hess was saddled with the defeat for Messiah as he went 5.0 innings, giving up five runs on eight hits and three walks.
 
Arcadia 5, Messiah 3
A two-run home run from Sean Carew in the top of the seventh inning vaulted the Knights in front for the game one victory.
 
AU struck in the first and third innings on a fielder's choice by Carew, allowing Bryan Gillen to score, and an RBI groundout by Trevor Mattson two frames later, pushed in Carew to take the 2-0 advantage.
 
Messiah took the lead in the bottom half of the frame as Chris LaRose darted home on a passed ball, and in the same at-bat, Hunter Brindle squeezed in Jarod Bingaman from third to tie the ballgame at 2-2.
 
The Falcons moved ahead in the home half of the fifth when Trent Culver grounded out to second, allowing Jimmy Kustra, who came in as a pinch runner, to race home  for Messiahs' third score.
 
In the seventh, Teddy Gonzalez pinch hit for Matt Ernst and drove a ball into left field for a one-out double. Two batters later Dylan Towey shot a ball into left field and gave way for a pinch runner in the form of Ryan Bealer. The next man up was Dylan Towey who lined a single into left, bringing in Bealer for the tying run. Next up was Carew who, on the second pitch of the at-bat, crushed a two-run home run to left field, putting the Knights back in the lead for good at 5-3.
 
The Scarlet & Grey saw two Knights record multi-hit games as Towey and Carew each had two base knocks, with Carew also tallying three RBI and two runs scored. As for the Falcons, LaRose tallied two of his team's four hits.  
 
On the hill for AU was Jeremy Sabathne, who went the distance, surrendering three runs (2 ER) on four hits, while striking out five.
 
Messiah's starter also went all the way as Jordan Nichols allowed five runs (4 ER) while scattering seven hits, fanning five and walking three.
 
 
Arcadia's has one more game on its southern swing as Messiah and the Knights finish up their three-game series on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m.
