Looking to get their season started on a high note, the #12 ranked Concordia-Chicago took the field tonight against the Spalding Golden Eagles at Derby City Field. Under the light and under cold conditions the two sides battled into the ninth, but it would be Spalding getting two runs across in the ninth to spoil the CUC opener 4-3.

California Lutheran's Nick Pico hit a three-run double in the sixth inning as part of a four-run, sixth-inning rally that propelled the Kingsmen to a 4-2 win over No. 5 Texas Lutheran. TLU led 2-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth. Senior left-hander Justin Fong (2-0) tossed seven innings and struck out nine to pick up the win for CLU.

The third-ranked Trinity (Texas) scored four runs in the eighth inning to defeat 18th-ranked Babson 6-1 in the opening of a three-game series. Michael Goodrich batted 2-3 with two runs scored and his second home run of the season. Jack Wisniewski hit 2-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Mason Meredith also had a pair of hits for the Tigers. First-year player MJ Metz hit the first home run of his early career, driving in the final two runs of the game in the eighth inning. Mark Tindall (1-0) earned the win in relief of starter Jeff Lonnecker. Tindall didn't allow a hit over 1.1 innings, striking out a pair of batters and yielding one walk. Lonnecker struck out five over 5.2 innings, giving up a run on five hits. Corey Cater pitched two perfect innings to finish off the game, earning his first save of the year with a three-strikeout performance.

Buena Vista finally had a chance to get its 2019 season underway by playing an afternoon doubleheader at 17th-ranked Webster , but the Gorlocks handed the Beavers a pair of heartbreaking defeats to begin the year, winning in walk-off fashion in both games, 4-1 (10 inn.) and 3-2.

Brett Jones, Matthew LaPrade and Ryan Skadra belted home runs to power the Bridgewater Eagles past Hilbert , 15-8 in non-conference action on a dreary, cold Friday afternoon at the BC Baseball Field. LaPrade and Jones each drove in four runs to power the Eagles' attack. Talley, Luke Paczewksi and Kevin Navedo each finished the game with three base hits. Andrew Berry worked five innings to pick up the victory on the mound. The senior lefty allowed three runs on three hits. He strucfive and walked four.

Hanover sophomore Justin Pope struck out seven batters over 7.2 innings of work and classmate Sam Crick recorded his first collegiate save, as the Panther pitching, paired with a five-run eighth inning by the offense, defeated Northern Vermont-Lyndon, 6-2. The middle and bottom half of the lineup provided the offensive spark needed for Hanover, as hitters six through nine in the order produced 11 of the team's 13 hits, which ties an early season game high. Senior Ty Stover and freshman Andrew Littlefield were each 3-for-5 at the plate, while junior designated hitter, Mark Walkenhorst added a 4-of-5 performance. Sophomore Zeke Porta ed one hit in the nine-hole, while also reaching via a walk on three occasions.

Austin fell 7-5 in game one of its doubleheader against Arlington Baptist at Baker Field before bouncing back with a convincing 9-1 game two victory, bringing the team's record to 2-4 on the season. Austin has now played four straight games, with 12 of 14 previous games cancelled or postponed

Fitchburg State opened its 2019 season this afternoon, defeating the Seahawks of Salve Regina, 5-0 in non-conference action from the Bill Beck Field on the campus of the University of Rhode Island. Richard Sharp went 7.2 innings shutout innings, allowing three hits with six K's for the Falcons to earn the win

Friday afternoon provided plenty of suspense for the Pomona-Pitzer as they edged out La Verne 12-10. The Sagehens' offense was on full display, collecting 18 hits while Jeremy Jess and Jack Hanley co-led with three RBIs each. Desperate for a win, MacMurray got its answer in a 14-1 drubbing of RMU-Peoria. In the win, the Highlanders cranked out 16 hits. Mason Hale finished a double shy of the cycle. The sophomore went 3 for 4 with 3 RBI. Brendan Schanz and Hayden Radford each turned in 3 for 5 performances as Schanz drove in a pair. Sophomore Austin Wombacher finished the day 2 for 4 with a 2 RBI double. Freshman Anthony Clark was stellar in his collegiate debut, scattering two hits over seven innings of work. Clark walked only one and struck out five.

Using big offensive innings in both games, East Texas Baptist completed a sweep against McMurry University in a non-conference series. ETBU now stands at 7-5 overall and 3-2 in conference play. ETBU won game one, 8-1, and then took game two 8-4. In game one, ETBU would manage to break away from a 2-1 lead to an 8-1 victory in seven innings. Brady Faulkner would lead with three hits while Seth Mikeska, Drew Large, and Casey Combs would each have two RBI on two hits. Blake Corbin started the game with three innings allowing no runs on three hits and two strikeouts. ETBU would use four relievers to close out the game with Alek Arellano getting the win with a strikeout and a walk in his inning. The Tigers completed the doubleheader sweep with an 8-4 win in game two. Landen Barns had three hits while Zach Gartner collected two RBI on two hits. Dylan Sumpter also had two hits for the Tigers. Derrick Findley received the win with six innings of one-run, three hit ball.

Cabrini picked up their fourth consecutive victory this afternoon thanks to an 8-1 final over the Alma Scots. A crooked fourth inning propelled the Blue and White as they struck for six runs, highlighted by a pair of two RBI's hits from junior Joe Aurite and sophomore JD Barrett, respectively. Barrett paced the Cavalier offense as he finished the day 2-5 with four RBI, including a double in the eighth inning. Aurite, meanwhile, led the Cavs with three hits, while driving in a pair and scoring a pair of runs. Classmate Mack McKisson added a hit and RBI's, as well as two runs scored and a stolen base. In total, eight different Cavaliers marked the hit column, while five different Cavs scored a run.

The #23 ranked Franklin opened the 2019 season, taking on the Albion Britons on a frigid day at John P. McDowell Field. Junior Quenton Wellington singled three times and drove in three runs in his first career start while fellow junior Alex Mis belted a solo home run to open the scoring. Franklin's (1-0) pitching staff limited the Britons (0-1) to just five hits on the afternoon, closing out a 4-1 opening day victory.

Wheaton (Mass.) opened the 2019 season against the Nichols Bison at the New England Baseball Complex with the Lyons pulling out a 7-4 victory. Wheaton was led by a 3-for-4 performance from Bryant Salkind, which included a double and one RBI. Jared Sharkey and Zach Demattio  both finished 2-for-4, with Sharkey hitting a two-run home run. First-year Griffin Young got the start for the Lyons, with Zach Pipa, Zach Clesas, Dominic Cunha, and Patrick Arter all taking the mound. Cleasas picked up the win for Wheaton after 1.1 innings of work.

Fredonia State senior Luke Kuczewski recorded a season-high 14 strikeouts and fellow senior Kevin Yirinec bopped two home runs leading the Devils to a 16-1 Opening-Day victory over Lehman. Kuczewski went eight innings, surrendering four hits and walking two. The lone blemish on the scoreboard came via the longball. Lehman lost an earlier game 11-6 to Johnston and Wales.

Coming off an MIAC Rookie of the Year season a year ago, James Green has picked up right where he left off. The hard-throwing right-hander kicked off his sophomore campaign throwing six innings of shutout, one-hit ball — not to mention seven strikeouts — in the Saint Mary's (Minn.) season-opening 11-1 win over Cabrini. Friday afternoon, Green was back on the hill — and back to his same old self.  For the second straight start, Green threw six shutout innings — allowing five hits and striking out nine — before surrendering his first three runs of the season in the seventh inning of the Cardinals' nine-inning nonconference game against Neumann.  Fueled by Green's effort — not to mention scoring the game's first eight runs — the Cardinals got back on the winning track, dealing Neumann a 9-3 setback.

Lewis & Clark Pioneers got their first win of the season against the Oregon Tech Owls with a final score of 4-3. The Pioneers have struggled thus far with closing out games after being ahead with a lead, but the Pioneers closed out this game with a win. This brings the Pioneers' record to 1-8 for the season thus far. The Pioneers only had seven batters strike out compared to the Owls 11 batters that struck out. Travis Benham had a great game on the mound with one hit allowed and two strikeouts. Dylan Moore had a rough start with one run allowed, two hits, an error, and a walk. Moore pitched a total of 36 pitches, and finished with two strikeouts before Nathan Klein took the mound. In the tenth inning, Jeramy Albert closed the game with two strikeouts and only one walk.

Manhattanville opened the 2019 season with a doubleheader split against the Manchester Spartans, winning game one 8-5 before dropping game two 14-7. Sophomore Jack Matero finished the twin-bill six-for-11 with three runs scored while fellow sophomore Hathaway Roper and junior Peter Iannarilli finished the day a combined nine-for 18 with five RBI's. Senior Luke Scoggins finished the day five-for-eight with three runs, three RBI's and three walks while classmate Kieran Corrigan went two-for-five with two RBI's in Manhattanville's (1-1) game one win.

Birmingham-Southern shut out Wisconsin-Oshkosh 4-0. The Panthers took the lead with a run in the bottom of the fifth and did not look back, adding two more runs in the sixth and capped the scoring with another run in the eighth inning. Senior Jake Cook got the start on the mound for the Panthers, pitching seven strong innings. He pitched a shutout and allowed just four hits and struck out eight through 25 batters faced. With his performance, Cook improved his record to 2-1 this season. Offensively, the Panthers were led by Cole Steadman, who accounted for three of BSC's four runs. He was 3-of-5 from the plate with two runs scored and an RBI.

Junior Jon Fleck had a career-high seven RBIs to lead the Centenary University baseball team to a 21-0 victory over the University of Valley Forge at Diamond Nation in Flemington, New Jersey. Fleck's seven RBIs are tied for the second most in single-game history at Centenary. It was the first time a Cyclone had seven or more RBIs in a game since Nigel Archibald had seven against Merchant Marine in 2004. As a team, the Cyclones banged out 21 hits in the contest as seven of the nine starters recorded at least one hit in the contest.

Washington University finished a doubleheader Friday against University of Dubuque with a 6-2 win in game one and a 3-3 tie due to darkness in game two, as senior John Howard shined in his home debut of 2019 pitching a complete game for the win at Kelly Field. The Bears pitching staff totaled 21 strikeouts in 17 innings of work while sophomore Troy Bauer tallied a career high 8 strikeouts in 3.2 innings of work in game two. University of Dallas swept its doubleheader against Dallas Christian College. The Crusaders started on a sluggish note in Game 1, but the bats woke up in the sixth inning as the team combined to score six runs and eventually go on to win 8-1. Conrad Voss shut down the DCC bats only allowing one hit. In Game Two Ruggeri Thomas kept the Dallas offense in check most of the game, but UD gathered three runs off of two hits to gather the 3-0 victory. Zachary Taylor did his job and more by pitching five innings and only allowing three hits. Taylor kept his perfect record alive on the mound as UD collected its first shutout since 2017, when Dallas beat Schreiner University 9-0.

• Webster's Kurich wins 400th in sweep

The Schreiner Mountaineers opened their non-conference series in Longview, Texas with a 7-6 win over LeTourneau in 10 innings. The Mountaineers were victorious in a hard-fought win over the Yellowjackets. Schreiner struck first with a run in the top of the first inning. LeTourneau was scoreless for three innings before scoring five runs in the fourth inning. Schreiner responded with three runs in the fifth inning. It was 4-6 after five innings.  The Mountaineers scored once in the seventh and then again in the ninth to tie the game. The Mountaineers pulled ahead in the 10^th inning to earn a 7-6 win over the Yellowjackets. Hooper was first to pitch, he was followed by Hakala, Blevins and Gilliam getting the job done on the bump. Blevins earned his first collegiate win in the contest. Benavides (2-3), Velasquez (2-4), Contreras (2-5, 3 RBI's), and Gilliam (3-5, 2B) were all strong at the plate in the win.

After a tough 6-2 loss to Hardin-Simmons to open its weekend three-game home series with Hardin-Simmons, Texas-Dallas recorded its second shutout in three games Friday afternoon with a 3-0 win over the Cowboys in the second game of the day. The Comets (6-7, 1-1 ASC) will close out the three-game set with HSU on Saturday with a single game.

Concordia Texas got a quality start from Matthew Williams in game one and followed it up with a balanced offensive attack in game two to pick up a doubleheader sweep over Ozarks, 4-0 and 8-5, at Lonnie R. Qualls Baseball field. The Tornados opened ASC play at 2-0 for the first time since the 2015 season and move to 10-1 on the season. In game one, Williams was absolutely dominant on the hill, tossing a 7.0 inning, complete game shutout, allowing just three hits while fanning seven. CTX scored first in game two, keeping a lead before scoring a few insurance runs late.
