NC Wesleyan rolled to an upset 7-2 win over 5th ranked |
Holden Bridge, a junior on No. 8 Swarthmore, led the Garnet to wins over SUNY-Canton and Susquehanna on Tuesday, bringing the team's win streak to four. Bridge reached base with a single in nine of his 14 plate appearances over the span of both games. He had seven RBIs and five runs scored on the day. Six of Bridge's hits came in the game against Canton, and he now enters the Centennial Conference record book along side 10 other individuals who have recorded six hits in a single game. He's 19-for-34 this season, earning himself a .559 batting average. Swarthmore is now 5-2 on the season and scoring at a rate of 13.4 runs per game, the most in the country this season for any Division III team that's played at least seven games.
A 3-for-4 day by Nick Herzog, which included the game winning RBI double in the seventh inning carried the 18th ranked Beacons to a huge 3-2 win over 17th ranked Keystone at Lake Myrtle Field. Ben Gottesman collected the win after going just one inning of work. Bobby Tramondozzi earned the save, his first of the season, after going two scoreless innings in which he had three strikeouts. Dylan Fashempour made his first start for the Beacons and lasted four complete innings. He allowed just one run on two hits and had five strikeouts.
Alfred State completed a two game sweep of Lakeland with a convincing 18-0 victory. The Pioneers scored early and often as they improved to 2-0 on the Florida portion of their spring trip. Dan Woodward finished 3 for 5 with 3 RBI, Mike Gibson was 2 for 3 with 4 RBI, and Tim Holler was 2 for 6 with 3 RBI. The Pioneers drew eight walks and were hit by three pitches. Garrett Mack was tough on the mound. He didn't allow a hit over the first three innings and finished the day with six scoreless innings. He allowed three hits and one walk while striking out a pair. The 18 runs was the most scored by Alfred State since they scored 16 vs. D'Youville late in the 2017 season. The shutout was the second of the season for the blue & gold.
Southern Virginia stole a win on the road against Roanoke, earning a 3-1 victory and extending their current win streak to six games. The Knights' offense collected seven hits with four walks leaving 11 on base. Southern Virginia pitched six pitchers, Jaxon Newbold picked up the win in two innings allowing a hit and recording a strikeout. Matt Roll registered his second save of the season throwing two innings and chalked up two K's.
Washington College improved to 8-0 on the season for the first time since 1939 in a 13-2 win over Northwestern (Minn.) at the Lakewood Complex as the Shoremen launched four home runs in the win, including three in a four plate appearance span in the top of the fifth inning. The Eagles drop to 3-2. Ryan Zwier, Aaron Barclay, Dylan Nepert, and Jack Kingman hit home runs for the Shoreman.
Stockton (6-0) opened up its five-game spring break trip with a sweep of Penn College (0-6) by scores of 4-2 and 16-5 to remain unbeaten on the season. Austin Gonella knocked three hits, including a double, and registered one RBI in the opener. Joe Pipher added two hits for the Ospreys. Zach Fillmore pitched a complete game, allowing just two runs on three hits with four strikeouts for the win on the mound.
Southwestern put together two big innings in which they took advantage of six of their 11 hits and two errors to defeat the Texas-Tyler Patriots 8-2. Southwestern scored four runs in the top of the fourth and eighth inning taking advantage of two of the three Patriot errors on the day. With the win, the Pirates improve to 9-2 on the season, making this the best start for the program since starting 10-1 in 2005, ending that season 30-12, and third best start overall.

In a matchup of two of the most storied programs in D-III baseball, Marietta scored early and often as the Pioneers defeated Eastern Connecticut State, 9-4, in the Snowbird Baseball Classic, The Pioneers improve to 3-4 on the season, while the Warriors fall to 0-3 overall. Trent Castle and Alex Page each had two hits in the game for Marietta. Castle had a double, two runs scored and an RBI.
Amherst sent 12 men to the plate in the fifth inning and plated eight runs on their way to an 18-5 victory over UMass Dartmouth in Spring Break action from Lake Myrtle Stadium. Chase Henley drove in four runs, Kai Terada Herzer, Joe Palmo and William Murphy knocked in three apiece and seven different Mammoths crossed the plate on more than one occasion.
Lancaster Bible won its second straight game at Myrtle Beach, S.C., as the Chargers defeated Clarks Summit, 13-9. Lancaster Bible is now 2-2 overall, while the Defenders dropped to 0-5. Each team had 15 hits, while the Chargers committed four errors and the Defenders one. Jacob Schenck finished 4-for-5 with three runs, while Jacob Alvarez was 3-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and two runs batted in.
Yeshiva split its season-opening doubleheader with John Jay, at Baseball Heaven. After falling in the first game, 16-0, Yeshiva rallied from a three-run deficit to earn the victory in the second contest, 4-3, to knock off last year's runner-up in the CUNYAC championships. With the game tied, 3-3 in the top of the seventh of game two, senior left fielder Aryeh Salovey drilled an inside-the-park home run to straightaway center field to give the Macs (1-1) a 4-3 advantage. John Jay had the potential game-winning run come to the plate in the bottom-frame, but junior pitcher Sonny Braha escaped the jam to earn the win after pitching three shutout innings in relief. Earlier in the day, John Jay (5-6) scored seven runs in the opening inning of game one, and never looked back. The highlight of the inning was an RBI triple by senior pitcher Zach Hyde, and a two-run single off the bat of classmate Steven Catuogno.
Sophomore Matt Dalton had one hit and five RBIs, and junior Chase Counts had two hits and three RBIs, to lead Hampden-Sydney to a 23-10 non-conference baseball victory at Wesley in Dover, Delaware. Freshman Trenton Tiller gained the pitching win for the visiting Tigers (6-6-1) against the host Wolverines (1-7-1). H-SC had 23 runs on 15 hits … scoring four runs in the first inning, three in the second, two in the fourth, five in the fifth, one in the sixth, three in the seventh and five in the eighth. The Tigers led 18-0 after seven at-bats before WC scored seven runs in the seventh to make it 18-7. H-SC outscored the Wolverines 5-3 over the final two innings for the final 13-run margin.
Sewanee used had key plate appearances in the fifth and sixth innings to snap a three-game losing streak, 12-7, inside Montgomery Field. Carter Huffman recorded a 3-for-5 day with five RBI and scored twice. Riley Brandvold scored four times in five plate appearances, finishing with a 3-for-4 day. Nick Ewing (1-0) earned the win in relief, striking out four in 3.1 innings. The junior allowed three hits and one earned run.
Vassar scored four times in the eighth to rally past the Plymouth State Panthers, 13-10, in a non-conference baseball game at Terry Park. Vassar scored twice in the top of the first, but the Panthers’ bats put up a seven-spot in the bottom of the inning. The Brewers chipped away with runs in the second and third innings, before tying the game at 8-8 in the top of the fifth, but PSU pushed two more runs across in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead. Vassar made it a 10-9 with a run in the sixth, then pulled in front with the four-run eighth and Plymouth was unable to rally. With the setback the Panthers move to 3-3, while Vassar improves to 3-2 on the season.
Sometimes in baseball, everything you can do, I can do better. Simpson scored in four different innings in the first half of the game but each time New Jersey City had an equal or better response. The Gothic Knights scored in six of eight innings, including a three-run spot in the fifth and NJCU defeated the Storm, 11-6, in game five of its 2019 spring trip. After losing the first three games of the trip, NJCU (2-3) posted 11 hits and four multi-run innings while sending Simpson to its first loss (3-1).
Freshman third baseman Colin Spranger singled in a run to give Ohio Wesleyan an early lead, but Arcadia rallied for a non-conference win in Port Charlotte, Fla. The Knights took the lead on Phil Pierfy's 2-run single in the third, then added a run in the fourth before breaking the game open with 4 runs in the seventh, capped by Zak Thomas' 2-run single. The Bishops salvaged a split on the day, doubling up Scranton 14-7.
