Swarthmore completed its spring break trip in Florida with convincing wins over Arcadia and Ohio Wesleyan on Thursday afternoon. The Garnet went 7-3 on their season-opening trip, a two-win improvement from the 10 games they played to begin their record-setting season in 2018. Junior Jared Gillen had a monster day, compiling six hits over the two games including a home run, double, five RBIs and six runs scored. Junior Sawyer Lake threw a complete-game gem in Game 2, striking out 10 while allowing just two hits. Swarthmore averaged 12.4 runs over the 10 games in Florida.
Senior righty Fernando Burgos allowed just one hit over six scoreless innings, and Charlie Huegi went 3-for-5 with three doubles to lead the 18th ranked Beacons to a 10-1 win over Washington & Jefferson at Osceola Heritage Park. The senior from Hyde Park, struckout six and allowed just two walks to earn his first win of the season. His strong performance lifted the Beacons bullpen which featured just two pitchers in the win. Matt Demma took over for Burgos in the seventh, and went one complete inning where he had a pair of strikeouts. Ben Gottesman closed out the win for the Beacons surrendering just one hit, while striking out three in two innings of work.
Bridgewater State picked up its first win of the 2019 season as the Bears rallied from four runs down to post an 8-7 walk-off victory in 12 innings over La Roche at the Snowbird Baseball Classic in Port Charlotte, Florida. The Bears improve to 1-4 on the season with the victory, while the Redhawks fall to 6-4. The win also marked the first collegiate coaching victory for new BSU skipper Greg Zackrison.
St. Scholastica came back late to beat No. 25 Wheaton (Mass.) 4-3 on a walk-off at the RussMatt Invitational. After a quiet bottom of the eighth for the Saints and Wheaton going scoreless in the top of the ninth, CSS came to plate to win. Eric Pearson reached on a single to lead of the inning. Following a Weber flyout, Conor Wollenzien singled. Pinch runners Marty Kalina and Braydon Hanson advanced to second and third on a Wheaton wild pitch. Kalina was then driven in by an Olson groundout to tie the game. Lane Girtz came into pinch-hit, but Hanson would make a great read on a wild pitch to score the winning run for the Saints.
Sewanee scored in each inning except the first and third and trailed 5-0 after an inning and a half of play, but that did not stop the offense, who posted a 32-11 victory over the Red Devils of Eureka to complete the three-game series sweep at Montgomery Field. All nine starters for Sewanee recorded at least one hit, and everybody who played in the game reached base. Sewanee recorded 28 hits and 13 walks in the contest. This is the second 30-run game in the team's history, dating back to 1992. Sewanee also posted a 30-run game in 2012 with a 34-4 win over Rust (Miss.).

Eight different players recorded multiple-hit games, including sophomore Aidan French and freshman Nolan McManus who each had three hits, as Wentworth Tech opened its northern schedule with an 18-2 victory over Mass. Maritime in non-conference action. With the win the Leopards improve to 3-8 on the season while the Buccaneers fall to 1-6. The 18 runs for the Black & Gold are the most since scoring 21 in a 21-1 win over Anna Maria on March 9, 2016.
Washington Univ. duplicated its total from the day before as four Bears recorded multiple hits en route to scoring a season-high in runs during a 17-4 win over Westfield State in Auburndale, Fla. with nine players scoring at least one run and eight players knocking in at least one. The Bears combined for 20 hits which is the most since Washington tallied 22 at Spalding on April 24, 2016. The Red & Green last matched the run output on Feb. 25, 2017 during a 17-9 win over North Park. Freshman shortstop Caleb Durbin led the team with four hits in five at-bats, including the Bears first home run of the season. He also scored a team-leading four runs on the day while junior first baseman John Brinkman knocked in a team-high four runs.
Stockton (9-0) stayed perfect on the season with a 14-1 win over Lancaster Bible (2-4) in the last contest of the Ospreys' five game southern trip. Seven of Stockton's nine starters had multiple hits and three Ospreys pitchers combined for 10 strikeouts. JJ Swentkowski, Joe Pipher and Anthony Napoli led the offensive barrage with three hits apiece. Swentkowski went 3-4 with a double, triple and five RBI while Piper was 3-4 with a double and two RBI. Napoli rapped three singles. This is the best start of the Ospreys in program history.
Rochester baseball bats broke out of an early season slump in a 10-5 victory over Elmira at Towers Field. Rochester's 10 runs in the home opener nearly doubled the output of the first six games combined (13 runs) of the season, as the Yellowjackets (2-5) pounded out 13 hits in the victory. Elmira drops to 2-5 with the loss. Kyle Trombley led UR with a 3-4 day, with a run scored and stolen base. Aiden Finch was 2-3 with a solo home run and 3 runs scored, while Jack Herman also had two hits, two runs and a solo blast. First-year Harper Sy went 2-5 in his Towers Field debut adding three RBI.
Marywood broke into the win column the Pacers swept Norwich by scores of 9-0 and 10-4. The Pacers (2-6) got a 3-for-4, three-run performance from Morgan Theobald in the opener. Jake Schuster had two RBI as did Anthony Navaro. Navaro doubled as well. Salvatore Monello (1-0) got the win, striking out two and allowing just four hits over 5.2 innings of work. Nathan Michener pitched the final 1.1 innings, striking out one and allowing just one hit. Bubba Klein was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Vinny D'Auria was 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored. Marywood scored three times in the first, twice in the second and once in the third to build a 6-0 lead through three. After a scoreless fourth, Marywood tacked on their final three runs in the fifth and sixth innings. In game two, Marywood scored five in the first to take control early. They used a four-run fifth to put the game out of reach.
Looking to build on their five game winning streak, No. 7 Concordia-Chicago took to the field today for a top 15 matchup against the #15 ranked Gorloks of Webster. Pitching ruled the day on both sides as only one of the five runs scored in the game was earned. CUC was able to take advantage of two Webster errors in the game to win their sixth straight by a score of 4-1.

After losing a day ago Mount St. Vincent was looking to get back to their winning ways down in Florida. After a slow start that is just what the Dolphins did with a huge come from behind win over Gettysburg College 11-10. The team now sits at an overall record of 2-3 after the victory. Freshmen Eric Zimmerman stepped up to the plate in the ninth, down by a run and ripped a double, scoring pinch runner Anthony Faldetta and Michael Grisianti to win the game in style.
Case Western Reserve wrapped up its four-game series with Roger Williams with an 8-4 win over the Hawks during the third day of competition at the Spartan Southern Classic at Lexington County Stadium in Lexington, South Carolina. Junior centerfielder Sam Neal hit his second home run in as many days and his team-leading third of the year, and junior southpaw Scott Kutschke pitched six scoreless innings of relief to pick up the win in the game. The Spartans have won back-to-back games and six of their last eight contests to improve to 6-5 overall on the year, while Roger Williams dropped to 3-4 with the loss.
Illinois Wesleyan senior Nick Brune struck out a career-high 14 hitters in a complete game shutout as the Titans took a 7-0 win over SUNY Purchase at Lake Myrtle Field No. 6 in Auburndale, Fla., as part of the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. The Titans are 6-3 and the Panthers lost for the first time in four games. In his second complete game shutout of his career, Brune (2-0) eclipsed his previous best of eight batters fanned in his freshman season vs. Knox on April 12, 2016. The 14 strikeouts is tied for seventh most by an IWU pitcher and is the most since 2010 when Jason Pankau had 14 Ks against Benedictine.
Sophomore Alex Parrott batted 3-for-5 with a home run, a double and six RBI, and junior Greg Tobin allowed only one earned run on six hits with five strikeouts and four walks in 6 2/3, to lead Brandeis to a 10-6 victory over host WPI. It was the Engineers home opener (9-2) while all five of the Judges' (4-1) games thus far this season have been played at the New England Baseball Complex.
Penn College concluded its Spring Break trip with a 11-2 win over Centenary. A six-run fifth inning lifted Penn College to its second-straight win. Jacob Carles, Richard Lennon, Brittan Kittle, Colton Riley, and Hofmann all contributed in the big inning with RBIs. Cody Nelson picked up the win after seven innings, allowing eight hits and two runs while striking out three. Andrew Gilbert threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
