Denison off to their best start

Sophomore right-hander John Reynolds, Jr. tossed six scoreless innings, while senior second baseman Jeff Butler and senior outfielder Matthew Blaise both had three hits and two RBI, as the ninth-ranked Randolph-Macon registered a 9-3 ODAC victory at Hampden-Sydney on Thursday afternoon, its first win at H-SC since 2011.

Denison pounded out 18 hits and Will McManaman pitched five innings of one-run baseball to lead the Big Red to a 12-4 win over Ohio Northern. The victory improves Denison's record to 15-2, marking the best start in program history through 17 games. The Big Red set the tone early, with four runs in the first inning off ONU starter Blake Lester. Max Lahn was 4-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs scored.  Over his last four games, Lahn is batting .823 (14-for-17) with eight runs scored and six RBIs.  He leads the Big Red with a .524 batting average.

Marian (9-4, 1-1 NACC) opened conference play splitting with Wisconsin Lutheran in their first games at Herr-Baker Field. The Sabres led for much of the opening game but couldn't pull away stranding 15 runners on base in a 4-2 loss to open the twin bill. Marian opened the second game strong taking advantage of five walks in the opening inning to cruise to a 9-1 win.

Led by a seven-run sixth inning, MIT ended its six-game California trip with a 10-6 win over No. 5 Cal Lutheran at Sparky Anderson Field. The Engineers finished the West Coast swing at 4-2 following today's win that snapped Cal Lutheran's six-game winning streak. Junior Tony Rice got the start for the Engineers, going two innings with three walks and three strikeouts. Scott Roberts started for the Kingsmen and went five innings with five hits allowed, three runs, two walks and eight strikeouts in the no-decision. Clay Rickerman took the loss in 0.2 innings of relief, allowing four run and four hits while falling to 1-1.

Senior centerfielder Brett Shapcott went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and had some nice defensive plays in Guilford's 4-1 win over Greensboro at First National Bank Field. Freshman Joey Hegeman (2-1), the fifth of seven Guilford pitchers, threw 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Dylan Tuttle tossed the final two frames for his first save, which helped the Quakers (9-15) sweep all three games this spring from their crosstown rivals.

Junior Nick Carlini and senior Johann Paniagua both homered and Keystone collected 18 hits in a 15-4 non-conference win at Drew. With the win, the Giants snap a four-game losing skid and improve to 4-7 on the year. Overall, Keystone scored twice in the first, four times in the third, thrice in the fifth and added four more runs in the seventh and two more in the ninth. Carlini finished 3-for-5 with four RBI, including his three-run blast to left in the third. Senior Ronald Medina enjoyed a 3-for-4 day with two RBI and one run scored.

Rowan used 18 total hits to carry it to an 11-1 win over Immaculata. This is the third straight win for the Profs as they improve to 10-4 on the season, while the Mighty Macs have a 10-5 record. First baseman Mitch Walker led Rowan with four hits, a double and a run batted in (RBI). Center fielder Matt Woods and designated hitter Anthony Harrold contributed three hits and a double apiece. Woods scored three runs and Harrold added two RBIs. Catcher Jared Marks chipped in two hits and a double and crossed home plate twice. Second baseman Alex Kokos produced one hit and three RBIs. Left-hander Drew Ryback pitched four innings and struck out four. Right-hander Jean Sapini earned the win (2-0), tossing two frames.

Late heroics in each game propelled Grinnell to a
sweep of Cornell in the Midwest Conference openers
for each squad Thursday. The Pioneers scratched
out a solo run in the seventh inning of the opener to
force a tie and added a run in the ninth to earn a 7-6
victory. In the nightcap, the Pioneers exploded for
eight runs in the eighth to rally for a 14-8 victory.

Seniors Chris Wood and Jack Harrington each had three hits and three RBI to lead UMass Dartmouth to an 18-11 non-league victory over Roger Williams at the UMD Baseball Field. Senior Chris Bosco, junior Justin Stone and sophomore Brandon Jenkins rapped out two hits each as part of a 12-hit attack in the setback for Roger Williams, as freshman Anthony Sapienza suffered the setback on the mound for the Hawks to fall to 1-2 on the spring.

Five players recorded multi-hit games and the trio of junior Alex DiMartino, classmate Sean Harrington and first-year Thomas Lapham combined to drive in seven runs as 19th-ranked Babson defeated Curry, 10-7, in non-conference baseball action on Thursday afternoon at Jack Valley Diamond. With its 11th consecutive victory, Babson improves to 12-2 on the year, while Curry slips to 5-9-1 with its second straight loss.

Louisiana College continued their winning streak on Thursday night in their series opening 13-1 win over LeTourneau. The Wildcats pounded 21 hits in the game providing plenty of run support for starter Andrew Robinson who improved his record to 5-0 on the season. The Wildcats and Yellow Jackets will play two games on Friday to complete the series in Longview.

Cortland scored all 11 of its runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as the Red Dragons defeated Oneonta, 11-1, in the first of a three-game SUNYAC series. Zack Durant pitched six innings of three-hit ball for his fourth win of the spring. He struck out six and walked two. Durant did not allow a hit until one out into the top of the fifth inning. Steven Salisbury pitched two scoreless innings with one hit allowed, no walks and two strikeouts, and Liam Krasney gave up one hit and fanned two in a scoreless ninth frame.

North Central (Minn.) was in action Thursday evening on Veterans Field in Minnetonka, Minnesota, to take on the Sabercats of Maranatha Baptist. The Rams founds their bats early in game one as they exploded with 21 total hits en route to a 22-0 win, their first of the year. The night cooled off for game two, but the Rams kept the runs coming. NCU jumped on Maranatha early with two runs in the bottom of the first and eventually gre there lead to 11-1 at the end of the 5th inning. Due to light coverage on the field, the end of the contest was suspended until tomorrow afternoon. The game will proceed from the top half of the sixth inning with the Rams holding the 11-1 lead.

Against a team ranked No. 10 nationally in hitting, junior righty Jared Buckley pitched into the seventh inning in his second career start and Eastern Connecticut State wiped out a three-run deficit with two runs in the eighth and senior second baseman William Coleman's two-out, two-run game-ending double in the ninth in a 4-3 win over New England College at the Eastern Baseball Stadium. Freshman catcher Matt Malcom hit his third home run of the year in the eighth to pull Eastern (8-6) to within 3-2, and Coleman stroked a 2-1 delivery from reliever Jeam Castillo through the outfield gap to send home sophomore rightfielder Luke Broadhurst from second and Malcom from first to end the game. Malcom had kept Eastern's hopes alive with two outs when he legged out a slow roller to the right side to establish himself as the winning run.

 Western New England turned in its best offensive performance of the season in a 20-8 victory over No. 23 UMass Boston at Monan Park. Six Golden Bears registered multi-hit efforts, including senior catcher Brian Valeriano, who went 3-for-7 with a triple, a home run and three RBI out of the leadoff spot in the batting order. Senior shortstop Alex Loparco was 3-for-6 with two RBI and three runs scored, while senior outfielder Ben LaCroix finished 2-for-5 with a walk, two doubles and a team-high four RBI. Seniors Aaron Rios and Erik Lacaire and junior Zac Nussbaum also played key roles in the offensive outburst. Rios recorded a team-high four hits and drove in three runs, while Lacaire went 3-for-5 with two walks and three runs scored, and Nussbaum doubled twice with two RBI. UMass Boston junior outfielder Danny Brown went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer, while senior infielder Kyle Boudrias hit a grand slam.
