The Case Western Reserve University baseball team defeated Baldwin Wallace University 7-2 in a non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon to give Head Coach Matt Englander the 300^th victory of his career.

Englander has spent his entire head coaching career with the Spartans, and his 300^th career victory comes in his 13^th season with the squad.  He improved to 300-221-2 overall, giving him a career winning percentage of .576, and is already the winnigest coach in program history.  Englander had led CWRU to three UAA Championships, four NCAA appearances, and nine-straight seasons of three or more wins.

CWRU improved to 13-8 overall with Wednesday's win, while Baldwin Wallace dropped to 12-8.

On a staff day for the Spartans' pitchers, five different Case Western Reserve hurlers combined to allow just four hits and three walks in the game.  Junior southpaw Casey McConihe pitched a pair of scoreless innings to start the game, allowing just one hit during his outing.  Meanwhile, the Spartans' bats struck early, scoring three runs in the first on RBI singles by senior third baseman Jacob Kucia, sophomore right fielder Benjamin Stawicki and McConihe.

Freshman right-handed pitcher Willem Bouma followed with a pair of scoreless innings of his own, and CWRU extended its lead in the bottom of the fourth when sophomore catcher Jake Ryan drew a bases-loaded walk and Kucia doubled down the left field line a batter later to plate two more runners. 

Junior righty Paul Slota added on two more innings of hitless baseball, and Ryan led off the sixth with a triple and scored on a wild pitch to extend the Spartans' lead to 7-0.  After a shutout seventh inning by senior lefty Corey Brown, the Yellow Jackets scored a pair of unearned runs in the top of the eighth against junior southpaw Scott Kutschke.  However, Kutschke would escape the eighth without any further damage and retire the side in order in the ninth to lock up the victory.

McConihe earned the win to improve to 1-2 on the year, while Baldwin Wallace starter Racco DiLaura suffered the loss to drop to 1-1.

Kucia finished the game three-for-five at the plate, raising his batting average to a team-leading .420, while driving in three runs in the contest and connecting on a pair of doubles.  Ryan and Stawicki each added a pair of his in the game as well.

Wednesday's game concluded a season-long seven game home stand for the Spartans.  Case Western Reserve will not travel to New York, New York for a four-game University Athletic Association series against New York University this weekend.  The series at MCU Park in Coney Island will begin with a single game on Friday, April 5^th at 3:00 p.m.
