Texas Lutheran and Southwestern split a SCAC doubleheader Friday at TLU's Katt-Isbel Field with the Pirates taking the first game 6-3 and TLU grabbing the second game 9-2. Bulldog senior right-hander Nathan Malinovsky struck out a career-high 13 in the second game. Malinovsky (4-3) tossed a complete game as the Bulldogs improved to 20-8 overall and to 5-3 in the SCAC. He walked just one and allowed one earned run. He scattered nine hits in nine innings. Malinovsky moved within a win of the TLU career wins mark. The victory Friday was the senior's 31st as a Bulldog. Former Bulldogs Brad Orosey and Ron Churchman share the current TLU wins record with 32 victories.
Bates impressed at the plate, on the mound, and in the field in a 6-0 win over Maine-Farmington at Leahey Field. At the dish, the Bobcats (7-9) tallied 13 hits and drew four walks. Sophomore Christian Beal led the way, going 2-5 with a double, a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base. Senior Justin White also went 2-5 with a run scored, an RBI and a steal. First-year Antonio Jareno continues to make the most of his opportunities, going 2-5 with an RBI and junior Kyle Carter rounded out the multi-hit games for Bates, recording a 2-3 day at the plate with two runs scored, an RBI and a walk. On the mound, Bates held the Beavers (4-10) to just two hits. Junior Mark Russell impressed in his first career start. Russell tossed three no-hit innings, getting a key strikeout with runners on second and third to end the third inning. Junior Ryan Moralejo entered the game in the fourth inning out of the bullpen and threw three scoreless frames, earning his first career win. Moralejo (1-0) allowed a couple of singles to begin the fourth inning but got a fly out and a double play to end the frame.

St. Joseph's (L.I.) earned a pair of Skyline Conference wins on the road at Yeshiva, 5-1 and 17-0. Five Yeshiva errors resulted in a 4-0 SJC lead heading into the top of the sixth inning. The Maccabees pushed a run across in the bottom half of the inning to bring the score to 5-1, but SJC starter Tim Woodford held the Macs hitless over the final three innings to pick up his third win on the season. Woodford allowed just one run on three hits with a career-best 16 strikeouts. The Golden Eagles scored in six of the seven innings in game two combining for 14 hits and the rout was on.
Nolan McCarthy was back to his dominant self, Jack Brancheau hit a bomb in the second inning and Occidental got back on track with a 9-7 win over Pomona-Pitzer at Anderson Field on Friday. Oxy's win over the Sagehens in the first of a three-game series between the teams this weekend, snaps a five-game losing streak and gets Oxy back to .500 in SCIAC. With plenty of baseball still in front of them, the Tigers are in good position to contend for a spot in the four-team SCIAC Postseason Tournament and more. Brancheau, a senior center fielder from Scottsdale, Ariz., sent a three-run homer out of the park during a five-run second inning that set the tone for the game. Oxy later added four runs in the sixth with big doubles from Jake Fredrickson and Angelo Zorn.
Led by a dominant eight-inning, 12-strikeout performance by senior Patrick Callahan, the MIT improved to 3-1 in NEWMAC play with a 9-0 shutout of Emerson. The game is the first of a three-game series between the teams over the weekend. Callahan now sits at 3-0 on the season, going eight innings with just three hits allowed, one walk and a career-high 12 strikeouts. Tim Mainella took the loss for the Lions to drop to 1-4 as he went 4.2 innings with 10 hits, nine runs (eight earned), one walk and three strikeouts. For the Engineers, first-year Ben Burke came on and pitched the ninth as he allowed one hit and a walk. - Offensively, Allison was 3-for-4 with two runs scored to go along with two hits each from Roberts and Rolland. Rolland posted three RBI, while Roberts drove in a pair.
Senior Nicholas Brown and junior Jake Oliger both hit two-run homers, and senior Michael Genaro recorded his 21st career win to tie for first on the program's all-time list as No. 12 Babson defeated No. 25 Wheaton (Mass.), 5-2, to open a three-game NEWMAC series at Sidell Stadium. With its 16th consecutive victory, Babson improves to 17-2 overall and 7-0 in league play, while Wheaton dips to 15-6 overall and 6-1 in the NEWMAC. Oliger extended his hitting streak to 21 games with his second inning home run, senior Eric Jaun went 2-for-5 with an RBI double, and classmate Brian McHale also recorded a pair of singles and reached base three times for the Beavers. Genaro (3-1) was superb giving up a pair of unearned runs while scattering nine hits and striking out six over 8.0 innings to win his third straight decision. Senior Max Tannenbaum closed it out in the ninth for his fourth save of the year.
Wheaton (Ill.) kicked off a three-game conference series on Friday night with a 4-3 victory over Elmhurst. Wheaton's victory moves the Thunder to 14-6 on the season and 4-3 in conference play while dropping the Bluejays to a record of 8-11 and 2-4 in the CCIW. Wheaton will conclude their three-game set with the Bluejays on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader beginning at 1 pm at Lee Pfund Stadium. Sam Arnold's quality start led the Thunder on Friday night as the sophomore moved to 2-1 this season by scattering nine hits over seven innings. Arnold allowed three runs, two earned, while walking two batters and striking out five. Jacob Garrity and David Solfelt each threw a scoreless inning of relief with Solfelt earning his first career save.

Senior Dakota McFadden drove in five runs, freshman Devin Reed tallied four hits, senior Johann Paniagua finished with three doubles and junior Jared Rowley struck out 14 as the Keystone defeated Centenary (N.J.) 16-7 in the CSAC opener for both squads at Diamond Nation. With the win, Keystone improves to 6-8 (1-0 CSAC) and the Giants host Centenary tomorrow in a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. The Cyclones drop to 7-12 (0-1 CSAC). The Giants tallied 16 hits and took advantage of four Cyclone errors on the day. McFadden finished 3-for-6 with five RBI, one double and a three-run homer to left center in the top of the second. Reed went 4-for-5 with four runs scored and an RBI at the leadoff spot.

Centenary used timely hitting small ball to take leads, while the pitching staff recorded key outs in a SCAC doubleheader sweep of the Mountaineers as Centenary (15-17-1, 7-4 SCAC) won game one 4-1 before downing Schreiner (10-19, 3-5 SCAC) 6-4 in game two in a twinbill. With the sweep, Centenary clinched its ninth-straight home SCAC series win and has now won 11 straight against the Mountaineers. In game one, the Gents scored four runs and held on for the victory. Sophomore Andy Purpura (1-2) picked up the win, allowing six hits and an unearned run for the victory. The Gents defense helped Purpura out with groundball double plays in both the first and third innings. In game two, the Gents used single tally in 6-of-8 innings for the win.
Making his collegiate second start, freshman Shane Hykin pitched like a wily veteran again for the Hope. The right-hander from Ada, Michigan tossed a complete-game shutout in Game 1 of a doubleheader against Kalamazoo at Boeve Stadium. Hope won, 8-0, then defeated the Hornets, 15-5, to complete the sweep in the series opener. The Flying Dutchmen extended their best start in school history to 17-1 overall and a first-place 9-1 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play. "He went out there and did his job," head coach Stu Fritz said. "He threw strikes and kept them off-balance. He didn't give away free bases. He's throwing very confidently right now." Hykin (2-0) scattered four hits and two walks over seven innings. He struck out four. Kalamazoo did not advance a runner past second base.
Sophomore Nick Henrichs pitched 6.2 scoreless innings and got the aid of some timely extra base hits by the offense, as the Buena Vista secured game one of the three-game weekend series at Central College with a 3-1 victory. Junior Bryce Rheault tripled to lead off the game and would extend his league-leading total of runs scored on the year to 28 when he crossed home plate on Peyton Renning's RBI groundout. Joe Rock added an RBI groundout in the fourth inning for a 2-0 lead before Porter Sartor, who had two hits in the contest, doubled down the left field line in the ninth for a big insurance run.
North Central (Miinn.) squared off with Maranatha Baptist in another two day, four game, series. The Rams recently bested the Sabercats in four straight games last weekend in Minnetonka, Minnesota, earning their first four wins of the year. NCU continued their momentum against the club into Friday as they came away with two victories by a score of 13-3 and 4-0. After an impressive 11 strikeout performance just a week ago against Marantaha, right-hander, Andrew Kemper (W, 2-2) took the mound once again. Kemper settled in early, holding the Cats scoreless in the first four innings as the Rams piled on run support from the plate. The scoring outburst ws highlighted by a seven run 4th inning that included three RBI doubles, one coming off the bat of Kemper to help his own cause. The Cats answered back with two runs in the 5th, but they did nto have enough in the tank to mount a comeback as the Rams would take game one by a final score of 13-3. Kemper finished his afternoon with six strikeouts in his five innings pitched and Taylor Justice led a trio of Rams hitters with two hits and two RBI's. Both club scores struggled to find much offense in game number two, but as the offense faded the pitching seemed to continue to impress. Justin Torres (W, 2-1) took the mound for the Rams and was locked in on the first pitch. Torres allowed just four hits in 5.0 innings pitched while also striking out 4 Sabercats. Brandon Scott led the Rams from the plate with two hits and two RBIs which was more than enough run support that NCU needed as they held the Cats scoreless the whole game, winning by a score of 4-0.
