ALLIANCE, Ohio - The third-seeded Baldwin Wallace University baseball team won the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Championship for the second straight year after rallying to defeat second-seeded Ohio Northern University by a final score of 9-6 at Rafeld-Rogers Field.
BW (30-13) completed a perfect record in this year's OAC Tournament and takes the conference tournament crown for the fourth time in program history and for the second straight season. After the game, the All-OAC Tournament Team was announced with senior All-OAC first baseman Mally Kilbane (Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls) being named the Tournament's Most Valuable Player. Also named to the team were senior right fielder Justin Carinci (Ajax, Ontario/Pickering), senior All-OAC right-hander Vince Dolcemaschio (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward School), junior Academic All-OAC left-hander Brit Kostura (Tequesta, Fla./Jupiter Christian School), and junior All-OAC third baseman Sean Kolenich (Parma St./Edward)
Scoring Plays
- Top 1st - Kolenich got the scoring on Championship Saturday started with a baes-loaded single
- Top 3rd - Junior Academic All-OAC second baseman Matt Terzola (Uniontown/Archbishop Hoban) added an RBI single to give BW a strong early lead
- Top 6th - Carinci tied it back up with a double to the gap in right
- Top 7th - Sophomore first baseman Ryan Gordon (Strongsville) had one of the biggest hits in the tournament after clearing the bases with a double to keep the Brown and Gold in the game
- Top 7th - Kilbane added a sac fly to his bid for Tournament MVP
- Top 7th - Junior All-OAC center fielder Dennis Ritlinger-Nirider (Grove City) drove in his first round of the tournament to pad BW's lead
- Top 7th - Kolenich capped off a six-run with yet another RBI-single
On the Mound
- Sophomore right-hander Matt Moscarino (Strongsville/Padua Franciscan) got his first start of the tournament going a solid five innings where he allowed three tuns on three hits and two walks with two strikeouts
- Junior All-OAC right-hander Tyler Walker (Fairlawn/Copley) began the sixth and freshman right-hander Sam Hoffman (Mentor/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) closed the inning to get the win in his OAC Tournament debut
- Senior right-hander Patrick Straub (Naperville, Ill./Metea Valley) picked up his third save after pitching three scoreless innings allowing only three hits
With today's OAC Tournament victory, the Yellow Jackets punched their ticket to the 2025 NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament with an automatic bid. Seeding and opponent info will be released by the NCAA during the selection show on Monday, May 12 at 12:00 p.m.
