CLINTON, MS - The Mississippi College baseball team struck out 14 and hit their first three triples of the season on their way to a 13-8 victory over Blackburn on Monday night at Frierson Field.
The Choctaws have now won four games in-a-row and have run their record to over .500 for the first time this season.
Freshman Zac Tucker struck out seven over 4.1 innings to pick up the win in relief. Senior Terrell Prescott went 3.0 innings to start the game, while senior Bubba Davis earned his second save of the year, striking out four over 1.2 innings.
Blackburn opened the scoring in the third inning, manufacturing two runs on three hits. The Choctaws answered in the bottom of the inning with a sacrifice fly by Brandon Benton that scored Mike Kerdock.
Chad Wooten opened the fourth inning with a triple to right field and came around to tie the game on a groundout by Kyle Ladner. Kerdock's RBI single that scored Clay Crosswhite gave the Choctaws the lead for good.
In the fifth inning, Stuart Magee and Spencer Brunson tallied back-to-back triples as the Choctaws put two more runs on the board.
Jacob Jurczak doubled home two runs as part of a three-run eighth inning that cut the Choctaw lead to 6-5.
MC put the game away in the bottom of the inning with seven runs, aided by four Blackburn errors.
Kerdock, Magee, and Andy Smith each finished the game with three hits. Smith is the only Choctaw to hit safely in all 13 games this season. Kerdock, Benton, and Ladner led MC with two RBI apiece.
The Choctaws are scheduled to play next on Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. against Huntingdon at Frierson Field.
