CLINTON, MS - The Mississippi College baseball team swept their second consecutive American Southwest Conference series with a 6-5 extra inning win in the first game and a 9-3 victory in the second game.

In the first game, the Choctaws (18-12, 8-4 ASC) needed late heroics as they trailed 5-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning after allowing four unearned runs in the top of the frame.

After finishing the sixth inning on the mound, senior Shane Bennett homered to cut the lead to 5-3.

Bennett held the Eagles scoreless in the seventh, setting up the late-inning fireworks.  After senior Jacob Daniel drew an eight-pitch walk with one out, senior Stuart Magee reached on a throwing error and advanced to second, while pinch-runner J'Marcus Brooks moved up to third base.

Senior Andy Smith singled to shortstop, driving in Brooks and setting up a first-and-third situation with Spencer Brunson at the plate.

After Brunson was hit by a pitch, Bennett struck out swinging, bringing defensive replacement Jeremy Simmons to the plate with two outs and the bases loaded.

On a 3-1 count, Magee sprinted towards the plate and just beat the tag to tie the game at 5-5 with a steal of home.

After a scoreless eighth for Ozarks, senior Clay Crosswhite tripled to open the eighth.  The Eagles promptly followed by intentionally walking Brett Hightower and Mike Kerdock.

Junior Taylor Cloyd hit a line drive that was dropped by the right fielder and allowed Crosswhite to score the game-winning run.

Junior Ryan Glover allowed just one earned run over 5.2 innings pitched, striking out seven.  Bennett eanred his first win of the season, striking out four over the final 2.1 innings.

Bobby Osburn took the tough loss for Ozarks, allowing eight hits and three earned runs over 7.0 innings.

In the second game, the Eagles jumped out quickly with a two-run home run by Mitchell Powers to give Ozarks a 2-0 lead.

The Choctaws responded in the bottom of the first with three runs to put them ahead for good.  Senior Brandon Benton hit his own two-run shot in the frame.

After adding a run in the second, Cloyd hit a two-run home run as part of a three-run third inning to put MC ahead, 7-2.

It would be all junior Bo Craig would need on the mound, as he improved to a team-best, 4-0, striking out four over 6.0 innings.

Sam Brownwood allowed seven hits and seven earned runs over 3.0 inning to take the loss for Ozarks.

Crosswhite and Cloyd each finished with two hits in the game as Bennett, Benton, and Cloyd each drove in two runs.

The Choctaws will be back in action on Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. when they host Tougaloo at Frierson Field.
