CLINTON, MS - The Mississippi College baseball team finished the 2011 regular season with a 17-0 victory over Tougaloo College on Tuesday night at Frierson Field.
The Choctaws (23-16) will now set their sights on the ASC First Round Series which begins on Friday night in Abilene, TX against Hardin-Simmons at 6:00 p.m.
MC hit three home runs in the ball game which gives the 48 on the season to lead all of Division III. Senior Brandon Benton hit a grand slam in the fifth and juniors J'Marcus Brooks and Spencer Brunson each hit long balls.
Benton went 2-3 with six runs batted in, while Brunson was 2-4 with four RBI and two runs scored. Junior Mike Kerdock led the team with three hits.
Senior Andy Smith and junior Chad Wooten each had two hits in the game, while Wooten drove in two runs.
Seven different pitchers combined to throw the shutout with only two hits. Senior Bubba Davis picked up his first career win with a scoreless third inning.
Senior Ben Adcock made his first appearance of the season with a perfect seventh inning.
The Choctaws will open the ASC First Round Series on Friday night at 6:00 p.m. at Hardin-Simmons.
