Claremont, Calif. - Junior first baseman Simon Rosenbaum hit a two-run homer in the first and senior right fielder Mark Okuma added a three-run homer in the fourth as the Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team jumped out to a 10-1 lead after four innings and coasted to a 14-4 win over MIT on Monday afternoon at Alumni Field. 

With the win, the Sagehens are now 17-6 on the season in its 23rd game of the season, while MIT slips to 1-2 in only its third contest. 

MIT got on the board in the top of the first as shortstop Parker Tew doubled to the wall in right-center to score second baseman John Drago, who reached on infield single to start the inning. The inning could have been bigger, though, as the Sagehens threw a potential second runner out at the plate on the play when center fielder Tanner Nishioka hit shortstop Sam Fox with a relay throw, and Fox was able to throw out Austin Filiere trying to score from first. Fox then made a diving over-the-shoulder catch in shallow left field to stop a run from scoring for the third out. 

The Sagehens carried that momentum into the bottom of the first, as Nishioka singled and Rosenbaum followed with a two-run shot for his seventh home run of the season. Pomona-Pitzer added two more in the third inning as Nishioka stole third and came home on a sacrifice fly from designated hitter Jake Bruml, and a two-out MIT error pushed the lead to 4-1.

The fourth saw the Sagehens score six times, as Fox had an RBI double to the wall in center and Okuma followed with a three-run shot to make the score 8-1. Second baseman Kenny Rabin and third baseman E.J. Lopez added RBI singles to cap off the inning. 

Cameron Yen went six innings to get the win and improve to 4-1 on the season for the Sagehens. Tew hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning to cut the Pomona-Pitzer lead to 12-3 and Garrett Greenwood added an RBI single in the eighth for the Engineers, while Bruml had an RBI double in the seventh and Fox an RBI single in the eighth for Pomona-Pitzer. 

Seven Sagehens had multi-hit games, led by Lopez (3-for-4, 2 RBI) and Okuma (3-for-6, 3 RBI) with three each.  Tew was 3-for-4 with a homer, double and three RBI for MIT. 

Pomona-Pitzer is back in action on Friday when it starts a three-game series with Occidental with a home game at 3 p.m.
