MADISON, N.J. (April 28, 2017) – Senior center fielder Marc Cohen produced the walk-off single for the Drew University baseball team on Friday, pushing the Rangers to their second victory over a nationally ranked opponent this season, 3-2, against No. 12 Salisbury University in come-from-behind fashion at Doc Young Field.
 
By the Numbers: Drew has now defeated No. 24 Ramapo and No. 12 Salisbury for two of its wins as part of a 22-11 overall record, and claim their sixth straight win. The Seagulls drop to 30-9 and see their seven-game win streak stopped in Madison.
 
Top Performers
• Cohen's walk-off hit in the ninth was his first and most important of the day. With a runner on second, two outs and a full count, the senior pulled a seeing-eye single through the right side to drive home the winning run before unsuccessful trying to escape the ensuing celebratory dogpile in right field.
• Freshman reliever Brandon Bottari was electric out of the bullpen to earn his first collegiate win on the mound. The hurler pitched the final three scoreless innings while allowing just two base runners with two strikeouts.
• Sophomore shortstop Zach Lipshitz continues to excel in the Rangers' leadoff spot, batting 2-for-4 with Drew's only other RBI on Friday.
• Senior catcher Dan Pfefferkorn was 2-for-3, including a double in the third inning that led to Drew's first run of the game to tie it at 1-1.
 
The Difference: Down 2-1, the Rangers walked off with the victory after a – sometimes literally – wild, two-run bottom of the ninth. Sophomore Jayson Mitch walked to lead off the frame, followed by a one-out single by senior Mike DiDonato. Then with two outs, Mitch advanced to third on a wild pitch that didn't get far from the Seagulls' catcher, but the backstop lost sight of the ball to allow Mitch to barely slide into third.
 
Another wild pitch plated Mitch to tie the score at 2-2, while advancing pinch runner Ryan Sabbag into scoring position. Cohen completed the comeback and ended the game with a single swing of the bat.
 
Highlights
• Senior starting pitcher Patrick Boyle posted a statistical anomaly, walking eight batters and only allowing two runs over his 3.2 innings of work. Sophomore reliever Josh Williams got the final out of the fourth with the bases loaded and combined with sophomore Jendy Castillo to pitch the next two innings of scoreless baseball.
• Salisbury took the 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning, which was erased by Lipshitz's RBI single up the middle in the third. Boyle's control issues had the biggest impact in the fourth, when he walked in a run to put the Seagulls up 2-1.
• A defensive stalemate ensued for four innings with Salisbury starter Jeff Oster pitching seven innings with six hits, one walk, one run and five strikeouts. He took the hard-luck no decision following Drew's comeback in the ninth.
