LA PLUME, Pa.- In a game consisting of 38 combined runs and 34 combined hits, the Keystone College baseball team was able to hang on to defeat Neumann University 24-14 Tuesday afternoon at Christy Mathewson Field.
Keystone moves to 21-11 with the victory. Neumann drops to 13-19.
Giovanni Diaz (Bronx, N.Y./Christopher Columbus) and Robert Estrada (Jersey City, N.J./Ferris) led the Giants' bats as the two collectively recorded four hits and eight RBI with each player hitting a home run. Julio Acosta (Elizabeth, N.J./Hudson Catholic) and Chris Hadsall (Lehman, Pa./Lake Lehman) both tallied three hits. Anthony Raimo (Albany, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) went 2-for-3 highlighted by a three RBI double.
Drew Sorrentino (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) got the start and went three innings with one strikeout. A bunch of Keystone pitchers appeared in relief as Dominic Verrastro (Scott Township, Pa./Lakeland) was able to pick up his first win of the season.
The Giants got hot in the first two innings as they were up 10-2 after two innings. As the contest went on, the Giants started to see their lead diminish as the Knights were starting to make a comeback. At one point, Neumann trailed Keystone by three runs.
However, Keystone was able to get back in the swing of things as the squad was able to come away with the victory. There were a total of 22 runs scored by both teams in the sixth through the eighth inning.
Keystone will begin their three-game CSAC series at St. Elizabeth University on Friday, April 28 at 4 p.m. Neumann will host Eastern University tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
