D3baseball.com Team of the Week

The Team of the Week is D3baseball.com's weekly honor roll, in its fifth season of recognizing the top performers at each of nine positions from the previous week. Players are selected from nominations from their school's sports information directors. This is the seventh Team of the Week of the 2016 season.

Games of March 21-28, 2016

C  Hayden Tsutsui, Sr., Carleton

Tsutsui hit safely in all six games last week. He hit for the cycle against Carthage, the first cycle at Carleton in more than a decade. He batted .560 (14-for-25) from the leadoff spot and scored at least one run in each game, including a 5-run splurge in the win over Colby. His week included six extra-base hits, giving him a .920 slugging percentage to go along with a .621 OBP. He threw out 5 of 7 runners attempting to steal last week, stealing more stolen bases (three) than he allowed (two) in five games behind the plate.

1B  Erich Carroll, Sr., Lancaster Bible

Carroll tied a program record in Friday's 11-6 win over Dickinson as he went 5-for-5 from the plate, finishing the week batting .700 (7-for-10) with three extra-base hits (double and two home runs). He had seven runs scored to go with five RBIs.

2B  Wayne Baldwin, Fr., Hood

Baldwin went 10-of-14 (.714) for the week with his first two career home runs. He scored four runs and drove in three.

SS  Adam Ortega, Sr., Concordia Texas

Ortega hit a grand slam to cap an eight-run inning in Thursday's opener against Louisiana College as he swung a hot bat throughout the series. For the week, Ortega hit .556 (5-for-9) with two doubles, a home run, five RBIs, scored five runs and had 10 total bases for a 1.111 slugging percentage.

3B  Travis Lodge, Sr., Randolph-Macon

Lodge batted 11-for-16 (.688 batting average) with four homers, 11 runs, 12 RBIs, as he accounted for 19 of Randolph-Macon's 53 runs in four contests. He complied a .700 on-base percentage and 1.438 slugging percentage.

OF  Will Cates, Sr., Southwestern (Tex.)

Cates helped Southwestern to a series victory over Schreiner this past weekend. The senior centerfielder hit .571 (8-for-14) with three doubles, one triple, a homer and four RBIs. His 16 total bases translated to a 1.143 slugging percentage and he reached base at a .647 clip. Additionally, Cates was 5-for-5 in stolen bases.

OF Tim McCoy, Sr., Marietta

McCoy batted .600 (6-for-10) as Marietta swept Mount Union. He slugged .900 as he tied the OAC single game record with 3 doubles. he scored six runs and had two RBIs.

OF  Walker Olis, Sr., Pacific (Ore.)

In Pacific's road sweep of Pomona-Pitzer, Olis hit .429 with three hits in seven at-bats. He hit a double and a home run, while driving in five runs and scoring nine times. Olis walked eight times and did not strikeout against the Sagehens. He was 4-for-4 on stolen base attempts, and broke the school record for stolen bases in a season as he brought his season total to 20.

DH  Andrew Niech, Sr., New Jersey City

In a 2-1 week for the Gothic Knights, Niech batted .615 with eight hits (8-for-13), a .667 on-base percentage (two walks), and a 1.308 slugging percentage. Niech homered in three consecutive games while driving in nine RBIs and scoring four times.

SP  Tommy Parsons, So., Adrian

Parsons threw the second no-hitter in Adrian Bulldogs history since the program started in 1901. He faced two over the minimum (1 walk, reach on error) and struck out seven Olivet batters in a nine inning, 8-0 win over the Comets. Sixty-two of his 88 pitches went for strikes.

SP  Marc Iseneker, Jr., St. John Fisher

Marc Iseneker became the first pitcher at St. John Fisher to throw a no hitter since 2011, as the Cardinals downed host Elmira 9-0 on Saturday in the second game of a doubleheader. The junior struck out 11 batters in the win and allowed just one batter to reach base, a lead-off walk in the second inning that was quickly erased by a double play.

SP  Michael Thomas, Fr., Christopher Newport

Thomas tossed the first complete game shutout in two years for the Captains, blanking Bridgewater (Va.). Thomas struck out a career-high seven batters in a career-high nine innings. He was efficient, cruising through 30 batters in just 95 pitches. He allowed three hits, all singles. Usually a reliever, Thomas was making just his fifth career start.

RP  Greg Martin, So., St. Vincent

Martin played a key role in all three Saint Vincent wins over league rival Westminster (Mo.) last week as the Bearcats' are off to a 3-0 start in the PAC. The lefty reliever earned two saves and a victory in the Bearcats' PAC sweep of the Titans. Martin struck out five while allowing just one hit in 2.2 innings of relief and limited opposing batters to a .111 average. His save in Thursday's 4-3 win established a new single-season school record with five.
