D3baseball.com Team of the Week

The Team of the Week is D3baseball.com's weekly honor roll, in its twelfth season of recognizing the top performers at each of nine positions from the previous week. Players are selected from nominations from their school's sports information directors. This is the third Team of the Week of the 2024 season.

Games of February 26-March 3 , 2024

C  Jack Lutte, Fr., Denison

Lutte hit .750 (6-for-8) with six RBI's, four runs scored, a double and a walk during a 3-0 week at the Derby City Classic for the Big Red. He had two RBI's in all three games and also had a .727 on-base percentage and a .875 slugging percentage.

1B  Teige Barrett, Sr., Whittier

Barrett fueled a Whittier lineup that clinched the series against defending SCIAC Tournament champion California Lutheran. He went 5-for-7 (.714) with a walk, double, two home runs (1.714 slugging) and a stolen base while driving in six runs and scoring four in the narrow 3-1 and 6-5 victories. He also took the mound and struck out the side to lock down the save in game two.

2B  Joey Dwyer, So., Oneonta

Dwyer led Oneonta in the three-game sweep against SUNY Canton on Saturday and Sunday. He finished batting 5-for-7 (.714) with seven runs, five RBI, eight stolen bases, two walks, and one home run. He was also perfect at fielding at second base with five put outs and five assists.

SS  Frankie Ritter, Gr., Shenandoah

Ritter started the weekend by reaching base safely in 16 consecutive plate appearances. He batted .800 (12-for-15) with a double and a home run. Ritter score eight runs and drove in one. He walked six times and stole four bases In the week , he picked up his 300th hit of his career.

3B  Jim Marasco, Sr., Nichols

Overall for the week Marasco batted 9-for-18 (.500) with three home runs, 14 RBI, six runs scored all while adding a triple and double to his line as well. Marasco added two hit by pitch RBIs. Over the weekend, Marasco had at least one hit in every game, including a two-run home run in the second game of the Saturday double eader, that jump started a nine run seventh inning, to help the Bison erase a 10-0 deficit and beat LaGrange 12-11.

OF  Dane Jones, Sr., LeTourneau

Jones had a monster week as he batted .600 (9-for-15) with five home runs, 13 RBIs, nine runs scored, and slugged 1.667 to lead the YellowJackets to a 4-0 week. He had multi-games in all four contests and hit at least one homer in each game. Jones has homered in five straight games overall and leads the nation with nine home runs on the season.

OF Liam McIlroy, So., Union

McIlroy is off to a great start to his sophomore campaign after helping Union go 3-0 in the opening week of the season. The sophomore went 9-for-11 with five RBIs, seven runs scored, three triples, and a home run. In three games, McIlroy has an .818 batting average, a 1.636 slugging percentage, and a 2.482 OPS.

OF Jake Schelonka, Gr., St. Scholastica

Schelonka had three hits in four trips to the plate (.750) as St. Scholastica won in their home opener 14-3 against North Central (Minn.). He scored three runs and drove in three RBI, with a double and two home runs, he slugged 2.500, and was successful on his two stolen base attempts.

DH  Eli Somers, Jr., Stevens

Somers went 8-for-15 ).533) with a pair of homers and four RBI in a 3-0 week for the Ducks. In addition to his two long balls, Somers connected for a pair of doubles for a 1.067 slugging percentage. He also swiped a base.

SP  Brandon Cassedy, So., Christopher Newport

Brandon put together the finest outing of his career. He threw eight scoreless innings and allowed three hits and one walk. He punched out a career-high 16 batters, tying for the second most in a game in program history. He faced just 28 batters, four over the minimum, in the victory.

SP  Adam Maher, Jr., Mass.-Dartmouth

Maher helped the Corsairs to a 7-3 victory over Fitchburg State in game two of a doubleheader as he allowed just one hit and no runs or walks over 5.0 innings pitched. Maher posted 13 strikeouts against 16 batters faced, throwing just 64 pitches. He struck out the first nine batters of the game, including one pitch away from an immaculate inning in the first.

SP  William Sotiropoulos, So., Stevens

Sotiropoulos fired six innings of one-hit baseball in a shutout victory over Rutgers-Newark. He walked just one and struck out eight to earn his first victory of the season.

SP  Jackson Teer, Jr., Trinity (Texas)

Teer put up a record-breaking performance for No. 19 Trinity in Saturday's 9-1 win over No. 22 UW-Whitewater, finishing with 20 strikeouts over a complete-game victory that earned a series split for the weekend. The junior broke the SCAC record for strikeouts in a game and tied a Trinity single-game record that was first set in 1965. Teer is the just the 14th player in Division III history to record 20 or more strikeouts in a game and was just two off the all-time record. Teer improved to 2-0 this season with his first complete game of the year, allowing one run on four hits and didn't issue a walk in the game.

RP  Tommy Lynch, So., Cortland

Lynch earned a win in relief in Cortland's 10-4 victory over visiting Elmira Sunday. He entered the game in the top of sixth with no outs and two runners on and Elmira leading, 3-1. He retired all six batters he faced over the next two innings, three by strikeout, and picked up the win when Cortland scored eight times in the bottom of the sixth.

RP  Joey Sangiuolo, Sr., Dickinson

Sangiuolo opened the year with two saves over two appearances on the road against Roanoke. First, he earned an unconventional save on Saturday by throwing 3.1 shutout innings while giving up just one hit on 24 pitches and fanning six hitters in a 9-2 win. He then went back to the hill Sunday afternoon, tossing another 1.2 frames of hitless action and striking out three on 27 pitches. For the week, he went five innings and allowed just one hit with one walk and nine strikeouts.
