New Paltz, Texas-Tyler post Top 25 upsets

Birmingham-Southern rallied for four runs in the sixth inning to erase 1-0 deficit and take a win 4-1 over Sewanee in game two of a Southern Athletic Association doubleheader at Striplin Field. The Panthers won game one 8-0.

Wheaton (Mass.) earned a 3-1 victory over Farmingdale State in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon. Junior right-handed pitcher Alec Palioca fanned five batters in five-and-one-third innings, gave up five hits, one run (earned) and three walks for the win. Junior closer Ryan Grant recorded his first save of the season inducing two flyouts and two groundouts to go along with one walk.

Linfield took a 4-0 lead into the ninth, but Pacific put together a string of gutsy at-bats and nearly completed the comeback. As the tying run took off for home on a dropped third strike, Linfield catcher Kyle Chamberlain threw to first to complete the final out of a tension-filled 4-3 Wildcat victory over Pacific.

Marietta's title defense will have to wait for Monday. The Etta Express is now slated to open against Anderson in Xenia, Ohio after the weekend action was postponed.

Cortland started slow but finished strong in a 17-1 win over Eastern. Reserves Conrad Ziemendorf and Keith Andrews both went 2-for-2 as they gave the everyday starters a break midway in a lopsided contest.

Fifth-ranked Christopher Newport converted its third weekend sweep in four tries against league opponents this year, dropping Methodist, 10-2. Bryan Bierlein has won all four of his outings this season, and converted the Captains' 10th straight quality start against conference foes. Against the Monarchs, the junior struck out eight in eight innings of work, giving up just two runs on five hits.

New Paltz State scored seven runs in the top of the ninth inning to complete a 10-9 come-from-behind victory over sixth-ranked Salisbury at the SU Baseball Field. Matt Prescia was 3-for-5 with a two RBIs and a run scored to pace New Paltz

Trinity (Texas) finished off a SCAC weekend sweep with a 15-2 win over Southwestern. The Tigers were on fire offensively in today's game, piling up 15 runs on 16 hits in a game that was shortened due to a 10-run rule.  The Pirates were held to just five hits by four Trinity pitchers.

Roanoke sent Shenadoah to defeat in their first ODAC contest.

Roanoke surprised Shenandoah in the ODAC opener for both teams. Roanoke won the first game 18-9, while Shenandoah took the second game, 7-3. Bradley Mattox led the Maroons in hitting in the first contest, going 5-6 with four runs scored and three RBIs. Lew Johnson, Andrew Creamer and Daniel Freshley led the Hornets in hitting with two hits each in the nightcap.
    
No. 24 Aurora made it 3-0 in dealing St. John Fisher their first loss of the team, defeating the Cardinals 10-5 at Chain of Lakes Park in Winter Haven, FL. The Cardinals attempted a comeback in the sixth, closing the scoring gap to a run but Aurora put the game out of reach with a five hit, five run bottom of the sixth.

Texas-Tyler closed out the 2013 Clements Fluids Classic with a 12-2 win over No. 15 ranked Whitworth.  The Patriots exploded for six runs in the second inning, led by Kevan House's fourth triple of the season. The game was decided in the bottom of the second inning, with the Patriots scoring six runs off of Pirates starter Nick Scourey.

Keystone split a pair of non-conference games on at Richard Stockton.  The Giants, now 5-1 on the season, won the opener 7-2 before the Ospreys, 4-2 on the young season, salvaged the split with a 6-3 decision in the second game as Keystone suffered its first setback of the year.

Senior shortstop Kyle McKelvey connected for five hits and two runs batted in as the Western New England offense exploded for a season-best 14 hits to back a solid pitching effort in a 7-1 non-conference victory over Saint Joseph's (L.I.) at Gregg Alfano Field.

North Central (Ill.) opened up the 2013 slate, splitting a pair of non-conference games at GCS Ballpark, crushing No. 11 Webster, 10-3 in the opener before falling to Washington (Mo.) in the nightcap 3-1.
